BONNIE EMERSON Obituary

Bonnie Aileen Emerson
Bonnie Aileen Emerson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 4, 2021, following over a year's courageous battle with leukemia. She was predeceased by her parents, William Harman and Julia Aileen (nee Collins) Nicodemus; brother, Robert Nicodemus; son-in-law, Sean Mocabee; sister, Betty Nicodemus Dolliver and husband, Richard; and nephew, Burton Nicodemus. Bonnie was born in 1943 in Washington, DC, grew up in Takoma Park, MD, and graduated from Blair High School and Montgomery College. She worked for the Montgomery County Public School system for nearly 30 years, was an avid traveler, and was involved in many community and social groups, including the GIST Life Raft Group after she was diagnosed with GIST cancer in 2006. Bonnie continued to fight that cancer for the rest of her life. In 1994, she married Russel Alan Emerson, who survives her. Her previous marriage to the late Richard E. Lawrence ended in divorce. She is also survived by her four daughters, Julia Lawrence Luongo, Jill Lawrence Muniz (Mike), Jane Elizabeth Mocabee, and Jennifer Lawrence Colarusso (Shon) and their families including 11 grandchildren; and by her three stepsons, Steven Emerson (Stephanie), Russel Emerson (Beth), and Jeffrey Emerson (Pam) and their families including six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Her family would like to thank the staff of Johns Hopkins Cancer Center, especially Dr. Jonathan Webster, Megan McCullough O'Brien, NP, and the infusion center nursing staff for their kindness and loving care. A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 1 p.m. at Rockville Presbyterian Church, 215 W. Montgomery Ave, Rockville, MD. Due to Covid-19, masks and full COVID-19 vaccination are required. The service will be livestreamed. An interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation gift to the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Hopkins in memory of Mrs. Bonnie Emerson directed to support the work of Dr. Jonathan Webster at hopkinscancer.org
