Bradford Carson Obituary

Carson

Bradford L. Carson (Age 76)

Bradford L. Carson of Bowie, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, after complications from diabetes and heart disease.

Brad was born on September 10, 1946 to John D. Carson and Estella Brown Carson of Plymouth, North Carolina. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army for nearly three years before then studying accounting and finance at the New York Institute of Finance and at Pace University â€" New York.

Over the course of the next 50 years, Brad earned a reputation as a highly respected investment broker and financial consultant, directing financial transactions on behalf of individuals and corporations and safeguarding the retirement portfolios of thousands of clients. In 2008, after professional stints with global investment and financial services firms, including Merrill Lynch and UBS Financial, Brad joined the privately owned Folger Nolan Fleming Douglas (FNFD), Washington's oldest investment firm.

Brad was very active in his community and politics. For a time, he worked as a reporter for WDRC in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and in radio, running down local stories and interviewing newsmakers of the day. He actively supported the community endeavors of his clients. For example, Brad served for more than a decade on the Board of Directors of EPIC, a Maryland nonprofit dedicated to empowering adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, in Temple Hills, Maryland, he was active in the choir and church lifeâ€"he loved to sing and did so as often as he had the opportunity.

Brad was a beloved family man, including a dedicated husband, father, and brother. He loved and was supportive of and encouraging of his nieces and nephews. His love of his work, life, and family are his legacy and he will continue to be honored by his family and friends who celebrate his life and work accomplishments, which meant so much to him.

Brad was predeceased by his mother and father, Estella and John Carson, and his siblings, Elizabeth Puckett, John Carson, and Eleanor Wright. Left not to mourn his passing, but to celebrate his life are his wife, Melody Barron-Carson, three children, Bryan Carson (Morning), Bonita Carson, and Erek L. Barron; sibling, Juanita Channel; and, a host of nieces and nephews.

Services are still being arranged but will be posted online by J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to EPIC, formerly known as Southern Maryland Vocational Industries, an organization Brad felt very strongly about.

To Melody and other members of Brad's family: Art and I are saddened to learn of Brad's passing. We will always remember those days after a snow storm when Brad, Art and other neighbors would take a break from shoveling and chat. May peace wrap its arm around you and provide you comfort as long as you need it.

Dear Melody,

Roz and I are truly saddened by the news of Brad's passing. Brad was a great person, highly regarded and a good neighbor. I remember him inviting me to Woodmore Country Club for golf some 11 years or so ago. He was a class act, having the same mild mannered temperament all the time; always a smile and a pleasant manner. He was obviously a highly accomplished and intelligent man with a big heart. Many of us moved into this neighborhood around the same time. Although we do not talk to each other nearly enough, there has always been our feeling that you and Brad and all our neighbors who moved into this community some 26 years ago are like family.

People who visit us always ask about the house with the red shutters and speak of how they like it. I usually tell them the guy who lives there is a stock broker and stick my chest out for having such an accomplished neighbor. We will truly miss Brad but know that he is resting now in heaven with the Lord. No more suffering, no more pain, only peace. Roz and I wish you and your family all the best and that your hearts find peace and consolation in the memory of a truly great life lived to the fullest.

Sincerely,

Michael and Rosalyn Doaks

Melody, I'm really sorry to hear of Brad's transitioning. When I think of Brad, I think of one of the nicest and most polite gentlemen I've ever met. Brad had a soft heart and was (I'm sure) admired by everyone he encountered. I remember how he took time out to help me with a business matter as though I were a paying client, but he willingly assisted me out of the goodness of his heart. I enjoyed accompanying him in the Cornerstone choir. Daddy always took pride in saying that he married you two in his motorhome. :) That was very special to him. Brad will be sorely missed. Julius and I will keep you in our continuous prayers.

I am so heartbroken. Brad has been my financial advisor for so many years. We would talk about investments, politics, religion and family. He was intelligent, honest and such a great person. I considered him a friend. I respected him and all he stood for. He spoke so highly of his family. I will miss him so very much. My prayers and condolences to the Carson family.

Words cannot express the loss felt by the EPIC family to hear that Brad has physically left us. The best way to sum up how we felt about Brad is through a nomination summary we presented in 2016 when he was honored with an award for Volunteer of the Year.
Agency
EPIC (Empowering People with Intellectual Challenges)

In what way is the nominee deserving of recognition?
faithfully volunteered his time and service to EPIC for over 20 years. When you first meet Mr. Carson, you may observe a somewhat quiet and soft approach when it comes to his support of EPIC. He is not just a board member, but he cares about the individuals, the staff and believes in the overall mission and vision of EPIC.

Description of nominee's accomplishments:
Throughout the many years that Mr. Carson has dedicated his time and energy to EPIC, his greatest impression has been his be a non-profit but to not act like one. By saying this, he is simply guiding EPIC down a road of professionalism and business tactics that will aid us in being self-sufficient and be in a position to provide sustainable services. Along with the business knowledge that he has shared, Mr. Carson has spent hundreds of man-hours volunteering his time spreading the word about EPIC, and he continuously looks for opportunities for EPIC to partner with other businesses. Some of those connections involved him introducing us to a local dog groomer who could teach classes to some of the people we support; he has invited high school principals to visit and share in the EPIC vision; and he has attended memorials to honor the lives of people we have served.

When the EPIC Team reflected back on what makes Mr. Carson so special to us, we all noted that it has been the small details that have made the greatest impact. a few years ago our agency experienced a fire at one of our homes fortunately, there were no injuries however, Mr. Carson was on the scene with quickness to offer his support. Not to mention this was a Saturday morning on a very cold winter day He went out and purchased hot beverages for all that were present without hesitation. Although this act of kindness was second nature for Mr. Carson, it spoke volumes to the individuals and staff to know that our Board Chair was not only responsive but actually took the time to personally.

It is a continuation of support as noted above that makes the EPIC Team feel blessed to have him as a member of our family, and we proudly nominate Mr. Bradford L. Carson for the MACS 2016 Volunteer Award
