Britta Chambers Obituary

Britta Ericson Chambers died peacefully on January 22, 2025, surrounded by her children after a brief illness just a month before her 101st birthday. She was born in Pittsburgh in 1924, the first child of Anders and Sally Ericson. After graduating from Bryn Mawr College, she worked in the US Public Health Service before meeting Palmer S. Chambers, the love of her life, in 1947. Their happy marriage lasted 51 years, until Palmer's death in 2000.
In retirement, Britta was active in the community, first in Guilford, Connecticut, the longtime family home, and then in Gaithersburg, Maryland. At Gaithersburg's Asbury Methodist Village, where she lived independently since 2012, she organized dinners and bridge games and played the piano at community sing-alongs. She joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday there in 2024 with family and friends and remained active until her final illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, her sister, and a daughter. She is survived by four children, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and hundreds of friends whose lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Church in Georgetown on Thursday, April 24 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the National Alliance on Mental Illness in her memory.
