C. NEUHAUSER Obituary

NEUHAUSER C. WILLIAM NEUHAUSER C. William Neuhauser best known as Bill died on March 9, 2017. He was 91 years old. Bill was born in his mother's bedroom at their home on Kalorama Road on February 24, 1926. He attended local schools, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944. Bill then joined the Class of 1948 at Princeton University, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and graduated from the George Washington University after war's end. Bill was married to the former Joan Schuyler Lawrence for 46 years until her untimely death in 1994. He then married his wife of 22 years Marie Pollock Cissel. Bill lived and worked in the Washington metro area for many years. In the early 1950's he was a founding partner of the DC brokerage firm Bellamah, Neuhauser, and Barrett. Bill's career subsequently shifted to the shipping industry, where he held several positions including Senior Vice President of Sea-Land Service the global container shipping company. He also was appointed to run the National Maritime Council here in Washington. His knowledge of the ocean transport industry led to Bill's being a guest lecturer at the Maine Maritime Academy for a number of years. Perhaps though he was most proud of his 39 years' service on the Board of Directors of the Sequoia Fund mutual fund.Bill is survived by his wife, Marie, better known as Rink; and his two children, Charles of Tuxedo Park, New York and Anne (Trina) of Alexandria, Virginia. He is also survived by a grandson; as well as four step-children and eight step-grandchildren. The family would like to especially thank Theresa Mireku and the staff at Carriage Hill of Bethesda for their selfless help and kindness. Funeral service at the Chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown and burial will take place on Tuesday, March 21 at 11 a.m. For those who may prefer an alternative to flowers to honor Bill's memory, a suggestion would be a contribution in his name to the Rocky Neck Art Colony, 6 Wonson St., Gloucester MA 01930: rockyneckartcolony.org

We were sorry to learn of Billy's passing. Our fondest memories of him at Cove Creek and a few years ago while traveling we stopped by Gloucester to see Billy and Rink. He truly loved Gloucester. They spent several hours showing us around pointing out the history, interesting points and his beautiful home! The last few years have been difficult for him and feel sure he is at a better place. Our deepest sympathy to Billy's and Rink's families. Our thoughts are with you.

Dear Charlie and Trina,
It is with a heavy heart but with wonderful memories of the time our parents spent together in the 50's and 60's that I send my condolences on the loss of your father. I can picture him anytime, very easily with his wonderful smile and hearty laugh. Our parent truly loved one another and essentially taught us the importance of having lifelong friends. Your dad was "the best". Regretfully, I will not make the funeral, as I am out of town...cannot change the plan(s).
All my love to all...always,
Peter
