It is December 4, 2022 and I thought of my old friend from Unisys who I lost touch with. He, Nettie and I would have our grand catch up dinner at fine dining off the chain. My husband suffered a stroke in 2010 and I was focused on his caregiving until his death in 2021. I was just getting my footing and thought of Cal and others only to look him up and find this sad news. I am sorry family. How heartbreaking. Cal helped me and ultimately my family during my time at Unisys. He will he missed. Hope to see him in HEAVEN with all of the other worshippers or the LORD!!

To the family of Calvin Steiner Jr., our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God heal your heart and give you His peace. Although my husband and I did not meet Calvin, we can see that he imparted much and touched the lives of many. What a blessing that is! Some people live a lifetime and never impact anyone. Truly Calvin will live on in the hearts of many, and you can hold on to the blessed assurance that one day, you'll see him again. With Love,

We knew Cal both personally and professionally and have tears in our eyes because of his passing. Cal was a consummate professional that cared for people. His passing leaves a void in many lives to include ours. The measure of a person is by the life he led and the people that were affected. Though his life was short, Cal's life and the contributions he made WILL BE remembered by all he came in contact with. He is a person of few.

To Cal's family. Many of us who worked for Unisys will always remember Cal. I thought about the times we worked on proposals, projects, and company business in general. I respected his leadership, attitude, and professionalism. I have spent many years in the working world and have been retired for several years but still the memories of Cal are on my mind. It is so sad he was taken so young. Peace be with you.

My sincere condolences to the Steiner family. Robbyn, Erik, Randall, Karen and Kelly, I can't imagine how you are feeling. Shocking is the only word I can use to describe life without Calvin. His light shone so brightly that everywhere he went and everyone he touched was brighter, warmer, happier and better for having been exposed to his aura.

My nickname for Calvin was "Big Life." From the time I met him in Sunday School at St. Phillips Baptist Church, it was obvious that Calvin was a leader and a force to be reckoned with. Even at 10 years old I knew that being a friend of Cal was the place to be. His charisma, magnetism, and energy was evident at an early age, but most of all, he was a really nice person.

As we became teenagers the fact that we went to different schools, and were from different parts of DC only enhanced our friendship. Calvin told me of an opportunity that resulted in summer jobs at the National Zoo where I met a bunch of guys that have remained true friends to this day.

As we became adults with family responsibilities, we still kept in touch and/or saw each other, especially in the fall. Though I was often out of town around Labor Day when the Branch/Steiner Family Reunions took place, I always appreciated the invitation, and later in September, we always spoke or saw each other since our birthdays were 1 day apart.

Calvin's friendship could not be duplicated, and if you were his friend, he made sure you knew it.

Karen and Kelly, I'm sure you know that you still have members of the "zoo crew" that you can call on if you need us. We can't replace Calvin, but we will be there as brothers.

Randall and Erik, I apologize for not knowing you as well as I should. That is a mistake I would like to correct.

Robbyn, please accept my and my family's sympathy for your loss. If we can help you in any way, please let me know.

My mother, Vera Trappio; my wife, Sylvia; and my son, Mason keep you in our prayers and wish you peace as your journey continues.

I had the pleasure working with Cal at Unisys, 2009 - 2011. He was a great boss and friend! He was always 'upbeat' and encourged us to beat the daily battles that were given to us! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, as he made such a mark in my life during the short time that I had the pleasure of working with him. He will be greatly missed!

To the Steiner Family; I went to elementary and junior high school with Calvin; he used to turn his eyelids up and scare me in class; he was such a fun loving character; and thru the years he turned out to be a very distinguished man; my prayers of comfort are with you.

December 10, 2012

Hello Robbyn, Erik, Randall, Karen, and Kelly:

I never had the pleasure of meeting you; but, I certainly had the the good fortune of knowing Big, Bad Steiner.

I played beside him in 1970,our senior year at Coolidge, and played beside him in the All-Star game in the Summer of 1971. I sat beside him when he marveled at how fantastic it was to be able to clearly see the screen at a football film session the first time he put on his spects.

I'll tell you, Steiner and I had some big laughs cruisin' around in his brand, new blue Plymouth Duster back in high school.

During the 1980s,we crossed paths when both of us were Unisys employees. Years later, we hooked up again in D.C. at the holiday performance of the Morgan State Gospel Choir.

Steiner was cool.

He had many friends at Coolidge High; I didn't. But, I always considered myself lucky that he included me in his circle.

I will never forget my friend, his laugh, or his swagger.

My heart felt sympathies to all of you.

Steiner Family...May God bless you and grant you His peace during this difficult time of transition. As a friend of his son Erik (our beloved Steiner), I know Mr. Steiner was a strong provider, model father, and friend to his son.
Steiner, remember that because of this, your dad will always be present and he will live on through you and your brother. YOU ARE HIS LEGACY. Be strong like I know you are and I am here! Many Blessings.

Steiner Family.
Cal was a great person and often provided me with advice and mentoring. He was an inspiration to those around him. I will always remember his smile and positive attitude that could light up a room and make the day seem sunny. This is such a loss to all of us. I mourn your loss as he joins so many taking his place in our heavenly kingdom.

God bless and may you find peace knowing he is with our King!

To the Steiner family, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of grief. I worked with Cal at Unisys. He was a great leader, mentor and friend with a gentle sole and amazing insight. Cal touched my life in a very special way. Cal was always just a phone call away. I will carry him in my heart, sole and mind for ever. He will be greatly missed. The most valuable lesson he lived and taught me was to “Always take the high road”. Anyone who knew or met Cal was truly blessed!

Mrs. Steiner - Cal and I worked together at the Unisys Hanover operation (1988 to 1993). Cal was an inspirational figure. A captain of industry, his advancement within Unisys over the years spoke to his talent and drive. A dedicated professional, he always held himself to the highest standards of performance and encouraged the same in his peers, his subordinates and the among the senior leadership of our firm. His good nature and joie de vivre was evident every day. Too much of our line of work is staid and gray, pinched and circumspect; Cal was none of those things. A giant among men, he made the mundane activities that make up our days memorable and engaging. A patron of philanthropy, his dedication to service was the embodiment of selflessness, and set the bar high for those of us who wished to do well for others. In short, Cal impacted each of us that had the privilege to know him and left the world a better place than when he found it. He will be sorely missed and I hope to be the better man by his example.

To the Steiner family & to his Unisys colleagues - you are on my heart, and in my prayers. I worked w/Cal from 1980 (SDC) to 2011 (Unisys). Cal was a brother, friend and manager during those years; I was his Recruiter for over 10 years. I will remember him for being a great leader - and a big teddy bear. Rest in peace Cal; you will be missed!!
