CATHERINE PRINCIOTTO Obituary

CATHERINE I. PRINCIOTTO  (Age 92)
Of McLean, VA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 3, 2016. She was born Catherine Mary Iannone on May 22, 1924 in New York City. She was the daughter of A. Albert and Carmela Iannone. Her father was a highly regarded custom embroiderer and real estate investor; her mother was a homemaker and dress designer. She lived in New York City until she was 11 and then in Astoria, NY until she was 24. She received her Bachelor's degree from Adelphi University in 1945. In 1951, she received her Master's in Medical Social Work from Fordham University. Before getting married, Catherine worked in several hospitals, including the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Besides working full time as a mother, she actively volunteered in her community. By the 1970s, she was back to working full time as a Special Education teacher. In addition, she worked on the Governing Board of the Northwest Center for Community Mental Health and the Advisory Council for the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute. For over 25 years, she volunteered and cooked for the Seniors Club at St. Luke's Catholic Church in McLean, VA. Catherine was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to JoAnne Moncrief, Robert (Liza), Peter, Karen (Collier) Irvin and Joseph, Jr., and two grandchildren, Zachary and Catherine Irvin. She was widowed in 1992 after the death of her husband, Dr. J.V. Princiotto. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA, where she was a parishioner for 47 years, on Saturday, May 13 at 12 noon. A light reception to follow at St. Luke's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to The Bishop O'Connell High School Monsignor James W. McMurtrie Scholarship Fund, 6600 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22213. Online condolences and fond memories of Catherine may be offered to the family at: www.moneyandking.com

I will miss the wonderful letters and calls from my cousin Kitty. She has been the one main connection to my father which I never knew due to his death at an early age. I am grateful for her continued interest in me and my family. She will be missed!

Robert, Peter, other Family Members: It is with much sorrow I heard of the passing of Your Mom. It's been 45 years since I played music with Robert and Peter, yet I fondly remember her grace and kindness, which through all of these years has left its impression upon me. She was certainly proud of her all talented children, while her warmth and charm welcomed all. I fondly recall She, Peter and Robert teaching me the proper way to eat Pasta with a fork and spoon as opposed to a knife and fork.
As perfect as God's heaven must be I can only surmise that heaven is a bit more perfect with her in it and those of us she leaves on this earth have been most enriched for being touched by her Grace.
With most heartfelt condolences!

Your mom was a wonderful spirit and person. She was like a second mom to me when I was young. She raised a great family and her spirit will live on.
