Catherine Reginia Sluga "Cassie"
Catherine Regina "Cassie" (Borges) Sluga, 96, of Latrobe, formerly of Orlando, FL, Rockville and Luke, MD, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Barnes Place, Latrobe.
Born July 19, 1927 in Keyser, WV, she was a daughter of the late Frank Anthony and Kathryn R. (Laughlin) Borges.
Cassie was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish. She had worked at the Social Security Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services. She had graduated from Potomac State College with a degree in Home Economics. Cassie was a volunteer at Shady Grove Hospital and was a Cub Scouts Den Mother. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, and jigsaw puzzles.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony R. Sluga, whom she met on a blind date; and one brother, Francis J. Borges, MD.
Cassie is survived by two sons, Karl A. Sluga (Colleen) and Francis J. Sluga (Lauren); two daughters, Mary Ann Sluga and Catherine E. Sluga Wolfrey (Tom); two granddaughters, Kellie K. Sluga and Natalie A. Sluga; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Barnes Place and hospice staff for their excellent care and compassion.
There will be no public visitations. Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
