Charles Chisley Obituary

Lt. Col. (Ret.)
On January 9, 2024, retired Army Lt. Col. Charles O. Chisley II, was called to eternal rest.
Born in Altoona, PA, Charles was the eldest child of the late Katherine Downing Chisley and George F. Chisley. He received his early education in Pennsylvania before graduating from Dunbar High School in Washington, DC. Within 30 days of his graduation, he reported for military duty at Fort Myer, VA. During World War II, Charles was deployed to Europe and served as an Air Corps Liaison Pilot in support of the Battle of the Bulge. He was later designated an Army Aviator and went on to serve in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Colonel Chisley retired from active duty in 1970, earning numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Army Commendation Medal. After his military career, he
operated the Milton Chisley Flower Shop from 1971 until his second retirement in 1984. He remained active in his community, serving as a member and past president of the Kiwanis Clubs of Capitol Hill and Leisure World, past chairman of SCORE
(Service Corps of Retired Executives), and a proud member of the Military Officers
Association of America and the East Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen.
He is survived by his three children: Frank, Vernet, and Charles O. Chisley III; two grandchildren, Nakia Bush and Charles O. Chisley IV; and a host of extended family members who carry forward his legacy.
A full military service and a final salute will be held on Thursday October 2, at 2:15 p.m., Arlington National Cemetery, 1 Memorial Avenue, Arlington, VA.
