Died at his home in Vienna, VA on July 29, 2013. Charles was born and raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts and graduated from Bates College in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea. After the war Charles moved to Washington, DC and was employed as a chemist with the Food and Drug Administration until his retirement in 1979. In 1951 he married Gwenie Rosser and they settled in Vienna. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he ushered and worked with the Committee for Helping Others. He enjoyed gardening, carpentry, puzzle making and other hobbies. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers John and George and sister Isabel. He is survived by his wife Gwenie; daughters Mary Elizabeth Couch, of Jackson, Mississippi and Margaret of Vienna; grandson Daniel Couch and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 711 Spring Street, Vienna, VA 22180 on Monday, August 12 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley Church or the charity of your choice.

I just saw this today on facebook! I have been thinking about all of you for weeks and am SO sorry to have missed this news! I will have John call when he gets home.
