Abdul Tuma Obituary
Dr. Abdul Hussain Sadiq (Altomeh) Tuma (Age 98)
On Friday, April 1, 2022, at the age of 98, Dr. Abdul Hussain Sadiq (Altomeh) Tuma died at home surrounded by members of his loving family. He is survived by his amazing wife of 65 years Barbara; sons Malik (Jordana) Rafid (Cori), Samir (Kriss) and Farris (Betty Jean); and grandchildren Leila, Amira, Kian, Laith, Tully, Erinn; his brother Mark Mosher; and nieces Eran and Paree; nephews David and Michael, and his nephews, Jawad, Jamil and nieces Rebiha and Sawsan.
Dr. Tuma was born in Karbala, Iraq, and received his undergraduate education from the High Teacher's College in Baghdad, a Masters from The University of California, Berkeley and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He had a lengthy and impactful career in the field of mental health research and clinical care, serving in the US and overseas in a range of capacities, including Chief of Clinical Research at the National Institute of Mental Health, and professor at the University of Baghdad, University of Maryland and University of Pittsburgh. He spent decades volunteering with such organizations as the World Health Organization, National Institute on Drug Abuse, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Office of Refugee Resettlement, Department of Health and Human Services.
He was husband, brother, father, Abu, Jiddu, Joon, Amou, and Sein to those he was closest to, and simply a great champion for humanity to the rest of the world. He is missed, loved and admired by so many, but his legacy lives on in the lives of the countless humans he touched while on this earth.
