SCOTT C. FRASIER SCOTT Clarence Frasier Scott, 91, passed away on January 8, 2012 at his home at Maplewood Park Place in Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. Scott was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 25, 1920. He grew up in Baltimore and in Roselle Park, New Jersey. He entered college as a member of the Class of 1943 at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in Westminster, Maryland. His studies were interrupted when he enlisted in the army to serve in World War II. During the war he was a surgeon's assistant in England. During this time, he also flew glider missions to administer to wounded soldiers in Europe and brought them back to England. Frasier returned to Western Maryland College after the war and graduated in 1946. It was then that he met, courted and later married Mary Lee Beglin of Beaver County, Pennsylvania (Class of 1947). In 1952, Frasier and Lee moved to Bethesda, Maryland and he began his banking career with the Commercial Credit Corporation in Silver Spring. After ten years, Mr. Scott joined the Ford Motor Credit Corporation and then made the decision to join the consumer loan division of the Riggs National Bank in Washington, DC. During his twenty years at Riggs, he made college loans his specialty including authoring and updating a useful college tool for parents called "College Scope". As a Vice President at Riggs Bank, he was also actively involved with the DC government and the Washington Board of Trade. Before retiring, Frasier Scott completed his banking career with a ten-year stay at the First National Bank of Maryland. Throughout his life, Mr. Scott was actively involved in many volunteer activities. He taught Sunday school and was Lay Leader at Bethesda United Methodist Church. He was a Rotarian and served as President of the Silver Spring Rotary Club in 1969 and 70. His love of teaching was evident when he taught at the American Institute of Banking and lectured at many universities and business schools on finance and lending practices. His passion was Western Maryland College. From very soon after graduation until his death, he served the college. He was President of the Alumni Association from 1976-78, served as the Alumni Representative on the Board of Trustees and was honored as Alumnus of the Year in 1989. Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Mary Lee Scott and his two daughters, Martha Scott Schafer of Alexandria and Sue Scott Beddow (David) of Potomac. Three loving grandchildren, Harrison Scott Schafer, Margaret Lee Beddow and James Scott Beddow, also survive him. C. Frasier Scott's life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, January 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the morning. The service will be held at the Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8300 Old Georgetown Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts of sympathy be made in the memory of C.
