CLINTON WHEELER Obituary

CLINTON FRENCH WHEELER III  (1965 - 2014)
Clinton F. Wheeler, 48, passed away at his home in Vienna, VA, on November 16, 2014 following a battle with cancer that came a lifetime too soon. Raised in Bronxville, NY, and McLean, VA, Clint's larger-than-life personality embraced both his personal life and professional career. With degrees from James Madison University and Marymount University, he worked first with the American Trucking Associations and for the last 17 years as an executive with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. His life was filled by endless service to others - to his family, his charities, his work and his unending rolodex of friends. He faithfully supported the homeless and the less fortunate through his work with So Others Might Eat (SOME) and Operation Smile; he served as a director of several professional organizations; and, his passion for the Boston Red Sox was only surpassed by his love for his wife and children. Clint Wheeler will be remembered for his boundless energy, unending enthusiasm, and his reservoir of kindness. He is survived by his wife Enily, son Clint, daughter Danielle, mother Louise Wheeler, sisters Leslie Wheeler Hortum and Rainey Wheeler Foster, brothers-in-law Rev. John D. Hortum, and Jeff Leiter, and legions of others who will miss the force of his presence and personality. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Vienna, VA. A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for Friday, November 21, at 12:30 p.m., also at Our Lady of Good Counsel.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made "In Memory of Clint Wheeler" to OPERATION SMILE, at operationsmile.org, or 3641 Faculty Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23453. Friends attending the service are invited to bring a pair of warm, RED SOCKS that will be donated to SOME and distributed to the less fortunate in our community, in Clint's memory.

Every year I look at this and read about the impact you had on everyone you touched. Eight years later I am here at Penn State. I know you would have loved everything about this place, the spirit, the games, and the fun that runs through the air. I hate that you will never come to a game but I know you are watching. I miss you with everything in me. I miss the laughs, the dumb jokes, the songs, and the caps games. You know how much I love you? More than the whole world? No. More than the whole universe. You are always with me and you are always remembered. Love you dad

Clint French Wheeler III
12/18/65- 11/16/14
Every day of my life, I miss you, my beautiful brother. Your heart, your spirit, your overwhelming life force... You live on in the stories of your family and friends and in the reflection of your children´s eyes.
I will never get over the pain of losing you. Eventually, I will learn to live with it- as we all struggle to do.
It has changed us. It´s part of our DNA-
In the very cells of our skin.
The sun shines again, but not quite as brightly.
I love you, Clint.
I honor your memory,
Forever.
Never, ever, forgotten.
Your ever loving sister-

Went to the SOME gala last weekend.. Every person we ran into was a friend of yours. They came from all over to celebrate one of the many causes you supported so beautifully. But mostly -they came with their stories. Wonderful stories of you. We all have one : I have a million. I tell them all the time. You live on, my beautiful brother. In the hearts and stories of all that love too. And in the reflection of Clint and Danielle´s eyes.
Never, ever forgotten.
Your ever loving sister. Rainey

It is just unbelievable that you have been gone seven years. But, you are not really gone because you live in the memories of all of us and we are constantly reminded of you through your beautiful family. I miss you so much in so many ways.

November 15, 2021

I can't believe it's been seven years, although when I think about how many laughs, meals, games, birthdays, and holidays we would have shared together as a family, it feels like a lifetime. Danielle is smart, strong, independent, and hasn't even begun to scratch her full potential yet. Clint is an amazing big brother, motivated, big thinking, and focused on setting goals for the future. Both are extremely talented, kind, genuine, and level headed. A direct result of you and Enily. I love spending time with them. We all miss you so much, your comedic relief and eternal optimism. Your passion and love for everything you did and everyone in your life. It' a void that can't be filled, you simply are and were too significant in our lives.

I happened to be in the "Hood" today and went by and visited with Clint. Clint would be very proud of all . I'm sure he's excited that his Alma mater - JMU went Division 1 last week. We'll never forget 'Purple Haze" at the Chamber! Tooooo much fun. We miss you buddy! Sending lots of love to all!

We are the better for knowing you. You touched so many lives. You still do. You live in our hearts today and will forever. We see the beauty of your soul in Dani's and Clint's eyes. We hear your laugh when they laugh. And we feel your spirit when Enily lights up talking about the love that you two created. All of this lives on because of you.

Hey little brother... how lucky am I that I had a chance to watch you grow up and touch the world in so many wonderful ways. There are not enough people like you down here but as we honor your memory, we will continue to strive to be more like you.

You would be so proud of your family Clint. They are remarkable... like you.

Miss you buddy. I look VW looking at these pictures when I get a message that someone has posted. We would be suffering through this pandemic and this Redskin transition together. Another year without you. Another Holiday season and this one, Clint IV will turn 21. How proud you would be.
I am married now again. How you would love Jeff, except for his fanatic dedication to the Cowboys! Every restaurant we have visited, I tell him- "This was Clint's favorite place - they loved him here." His response is always - "that is the 10th place you have said that about!" But it is true- everywhere you went, people would say- "Here comes Clint Wheeler....love that guy!" Because you made everyone feel special. You took the time. You cared. You made a difference. I miss you. I can see you right now. I love you, Clint, with all of my heart.
You never leave our thoughts- never.
Your sister now, then and forever.

Clint-it never ceases to amaze me how many people talk about you, miss you, long for you.
It's not just us -your immediate family- but all those that you touched throughout the years with your generosity your remarkable spirit, your ridiculous humor and your beautiful gorgeous, open heart. I see you in the sun and the stars, in the reflection of the ocean and most importantly , in the eyes of your beautiful children Danielle and Clint -who honor you every day of their lives.
You are not forgotten, my dear brother. Your legacy continues. And our love never fades. Always, Rainey

Not a moment goes by when I do not miss you, my sweet beautiful brother. Ten months later, I know how remarkably proud you would be of your amazing wife and children, who continue to move forward --holding you close in their hearts, as we all do. You are such a special person - can't believe God called you home. You truly lived life to the fullest and did everything with heart and soul, no matter how big or how small. Can only imagine the parties you are organizing in heaven... (Please give my Dad a hug for me) in the meantime, we will hold on to the wonderful memories of all the fun times - the Wheeler parties, Heavenly Daze craziness, all the baseball games and concerts and those wonderful dinners, lobster at the beach and those mix tapes we used to make listening to the "top 8 at 8" with a tape recorder held up to the radio. Those will make us smile in your memory as we mourn you. I know your incredible light is shining down from heaven - watching over your family and friends.

I knew Clint since we played Little League Baseball, starting in 1977. As we both grew up, we were friends both on and off the field. He was a good friend and a good Man. I will miss him dearly and I ask the Lord to watch over him and all of those friends and family who loved him.

I said to our fellow members of the SOME Corporate Advisory Bd that in reality, Clint did so much for SOME, all the while working the same magic for Operation Smile and God knows how many other charitable causes we never knew of - all of it behind the scenes. He was a good Gonzaga boy. Their motto, “Men for others,” was never more exemplified by anyone than it was by Clint.

Those of us who were lucky enough to intersect with him in this life and that incredible optimism that defined him will forever be changed by it. So yes, I'll pray for him, but will also pray to be more like him. What an example he set for me and all of us.

RIP, pal.

"Our basket of grievances is filled with the sorrows of our loss.
Although it is heavy,
This path we know we must cross".
Mr. Wheeler,
You were the nicest man to have ever impacted my life. Sadly, it seems as if the worst things happen to the best people.
Although you will be missed dearly my many, it is only a matter of time before we meet once again.

Few people on this earth touch the hearts of all they meet. Clint did. I will always honor and cherish the memories, the laughs, the stories, and the camaraderie that we shared. But, what I will miss most of all is Clint's baseball smile—he stepped up to the plate, leaned in with his right shoulder, tilted his head, nodded with a glint in his eyes, and grinned ear-to-ear— knowing he had already hit it out of the ball park!

Rachael Lipsetts

November 21, 2014

I can truly say that Clint made every life he touched better...with his generosity, his smile, and his company, and very few people can say that. I was lucky to know him, as we all were. You were such an inspiration to all those you knew, and you will be incredibly missed Clint. My thoughts are with your family.

"Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones
shine down to let us know they are happy."

Lucia Olivera

Clint was very genuine, nice and respectful to everyone. I was an administrative assistant when I met him, and he treated me with the same kindness and respect that he showed towards the "bigwigs" at work. I am glad I got to know him, even if very briefly. I am very sorry for your loss.

Sheri and Red Cavaney

November 21, 2014

It is said of some, that they are their own man. But Clint was every person's man. To him, each of us was important, and he treated us as royalty. Clint knew what you needed before you did and, with his big-heart and enthusiasm, he over-delivered every time with his forever smile.

Like his father, Clint was taken from us far sooner than any of us would have wanted. As we all struggle with his passing and are aching here on earth, heaven is surely rejoicing; and we are privileged to have spent time with him while he was with us.

We can only guess that Clint will miss his earth-bound family and friends as much as he will be missed, but will be comforted in knowing that we will all be together for his next big event sometime in the future.

Our thoughts, prayers and support are with the entire Wheeler family.

My only regret is that I did not meet you much earlier in life, but I am glad we got to know each other when we did. Heaven will be a much better place now that you have arrived. I went to Gonzaga with Clint. Sophomore year I hung out a lot with him and Mark Kimsey. Clint was always a joy to be around; he was funny, smart and a little unpredictable. That was a hard year for me scholastically but Clint could always make me laugh and see the humor in life. We didn't stay in touch after graduation, but I've always been grateful for the efforts that he (and Mark) took to make that year more enjoyable for me. Thanks Clint, your giving spirit lives on.
