Colleen Roche Syster
March 8, 1945 - February 11, 2026
Colleen Syster passed away at CHI Lakeside Hospital in Omaha NE of complications from hip surgery. Colleen is preceded in death by her parents Cheryl (Church) and John Roche; and her daughter Cynthia. She is survived by her husband Tom; son Brent (Brenda) and twin grandsons (Lucas) and (Jacob); her brother Rob (Jan); her aunt Judy Blazek; her cousins Mary Sue Hartung and Bob (Sue) Hartung.
Colleen was born in Omaha NE and graduated from Omaha Central HS. She then attended Doane College in Crete NE where she met Tom, her husband of 58 years. After graduating with a teaching degree, she married Tom and began a life as an Air Force officer's wife. Their first duty assignment was London England, where she developed her love of travel. Subsequent international assignments to Australia and the Netherlands followed. Ultimately, she visited 40 countries.
Colleen was a foodie who enjoyed anything related to food from collecting cookbooks to cooking demonstrations and events. She loved hosting dinner parties. She was also an animal lover who always had a cat or two around the house. She kept busy working as a book seller or volunteering at homeless shelters.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Saturday March 21 at 11am at First Central Congregational Church in Omaha at 36th and Harvey. Lunch will be held in the church parlor following the service.
lnurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in VA later this year.
In lieu of flowers donations are requested to the American Diabetes Association or the Siena Francis House homeless shelter in Omaha.
