Of Tampa, FL, died at 11:45 p.m. on April 5, 2005 of ovarian cancer. She spent the past 4-1/2 years knowing that there was no cure for this disease and little chance to survive more than 5 years. It is her hope that those individuals who wish to know more about this "silent killer" will visit the National Ovarian Cancer Alliance website at www.ovarian.org, an organization that is dedicated to awareness and legislation to fund research. A Florida based organization working to disseminate information has a website, also, at www.ocaf.org. Mrs. Freeman was extremely thankful to Dr. Michael Hoffman and Dominique Garvin, her doctor and her nurse, for their extraordinary care. She was also grateful for her many friends for their steadfast love and constant support during her struggle to cope with this disease. Mrs. Freeman was active all of her life and ran a marathon in 1994 at the age of 44. She had many interests, but of all of them, she loved to fly, getting her private pilot's license in 1983. Mrs. Freeman's career lasted 25 years. She was a public school administrator who planned, implemented and supervised teachers in the screening of young preschool students for developmental delays. She always felt fortunate to have known and worked with talented professional women and men who made her life interesting and meaningful. Only the love she had for one man could have caused her to leave her position in Virginia, which she did in 1996 to marry Grover Freeman, a Tampa lawyer. Before Grover died in May 2000 they had spent some of the happiest times of their lives with each other. Westie, her step-daughter, and Grover's only daughter, was a great source of joy in her life. A Memorial Service will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 19 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 509 E. Twiggs St., Tampa, FL with graveside services following at Oakhill Cemetery, Lakeland, FL at 2 p.m. If you wish, it is suggested that donations of your time or of your money go to the Life Center, 6811 N. Central Avenue, Tampa, FL 33604 or to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida, www.ocaf.org. Blount & Curry Funeral Home, Carrollwood Chapel (813) 968-2231.

I only had one "Kissin' Cousin" and she was the best! The cancer may have taken her body but it never touched her spirit. May the peace of God surround all who loved her. Van & Susie Houser

Connie,
You are but a stranger, yet friend.
I have never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I am following your journey of ovarian cancer.
I know you are in heaven and it's women such as yourself that give me the strength to continue to fight!
May Peace, Comfort & Love Now Be Yours!

For Connie,
We met many years ago at the Sporting Club in northern Virginia where both of our obsessive personalities displayed themselves in our pursuit of health and fitness. I got to witness the re-birth of her and Grover's reunion and to suffer with her in his loss. In between there were many laughs, a few tears and true friendship. Connie gave the best advice and once sent me a special card that said it all-move on essentially and never look back. For me then it was the best advice. But, I can't help it Connie, I will never forget you or stop looking back on all you meant to me and so many others. To all who read this: fight ovarian CA in any way you can, Lovingly, Linda

Connie Freeman came into my life in 1996, shortly after she married Grover Freeman, and moved to Tampa.
I became Connie's manicurist and pedicurist, and we began a wonderful and close relationship.
Connie was bright, and straightforward, and she never minced her words with you. When she listened to you, she looked for the truth, and when I listened to her, I was amazed at all her knowledge, and learned so much from her.
Connie gave in many ways, but her strongest desire, was to educate the people she knew about ovarian cancer. She was on a mission.
I love you my dear friend Connie, and will miss your shining light and the warmth you shared effortlessly. God bless you...Marilyn LaMonte

It is with great sorrow that Rochelle and I learned of Connie's passing from my sister Roberta. We will miss her as will everyone else that has been touched by her during her lifetime. Farewell to a longtime family friend from all the Rubin's. Her legacy will be ever present in our memories.
