CORINNE SHIA Obituary


Corinne Margaret Shia
Beloved wife and mother, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from complications of ALS. She was born July 16, 1950 in New Haven, CT. She went to Hamden public schools. She went on to receive undergraduate degrees from Connecticut College and The Ohio State University, and continued on to receive master's degrees in engineering from Ohio State and The George Washington University. Her passion for education was undeniable. Corinne had a successful career as a program manager and engineer working on many environmental projects. Corinne was dedicated to her work and was able to retire in 2016. Corinne lived in Reston, VA and was well-known in the community as the Reston runner, as she could be seen regularly running around the area. She was an avid runner, completing numerous races and 16 marathons. She also loved photography, travel, and reading. Corinne is survived by her husband, Tom Shia, daughters, Kristina and Alissa, step-daughters, Jill and Michelle, and six grandchildren. She leaves behind her brothers Jimmy and John Cannelli. A celebration of life will be held in Reston on June 9. Contact the family for details. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the ALS Association in Corinne's honor.
