Dana contributed more to the world of fashion history, and the world at large, by the tender age of 33 than most people are able to accomplish in a lifetime. Her passing is a deep and tragic loss and my heart aches for all of her family, friends, and colleagues. Whenever I think of Dana, I will always remember her with a big smile across her face – and that infectious laugh. She was such a joy to work with, and thousands of garments in the Calvin Klein archives have been conserved and cared for because of her technical prowess – but her work will live on in so many other important ways. And that's all we can ever hope for in this life. Rest in peace, my beautiful "archival vacuuming technologist."

I am more than unprepared to write this, to see this to live this. Dana was my partner, my colleague, my confidant, my warrior, my comrade through the fire of academia and life, my birth sister (we were born a day apart, April 27 & 28), my Taurean, and most importantly my dearest friend and sister. This world is a little darker now. But I know Dana's light is shining down on all of us. Pushing us, warming us, soothing us, championing us to move forward. I had the pleasure to build Unravel with her. Her friends, family and the world have the benefit and the gift to hear hours of her voice and personality via Unravel. We all have the chance to hear her infectious and awkward laugh, to feel her next to us whispering in our ear. My friend, I love you and that love is everlasting. It will not falter and I will share it with the world. I carry you with me every single day.

I worked very closely with Dana recently and was her PhD advisor and directed her assistantship. She was kind, compassionate, and overall a great person who brought joy to my day every time I saw her. She loved to walk the neighborhood with me and we often explored new areas as we lived within walking distance of each other! I showed her Munn Woods and the last few times we walked together during the pandemic, we sat near the stream and discussed how our work would have an impact on broader societal issues in hopes to change the fashion studies field.
To say that Dana was on fire here at ISU is an understatement. We published two papers together, curated an exhibition that won a top award in our field, and also presented numerous peer-reviewed research presentations. She was so close to finishing her degree and I know would have landed a job, despite the COVID difficulties. Her peers spoke highly of her and often looked up to her in class as she navigated difficult topics in class.
Dana also continually inspired me to keep up the fight for marginalized folks. We often discussed in my office the oppressive nature of ISU as an institution, yet found ways to try to navigate our place there.
I will never forget Dana and will continue to be inspired by her and her work!
The photo is of me Dana after we finished installing our exhibition, Queer Fashion and Style: Stories from the Heartland, which won the Richard Martin Exhibition award from CSA!

Dana was a student of mine at Marymount. I have good memories of her and am very inspired by what she accomplished and grateful for her contributions to the field. I am so saddened by her passing and my heart aches for her family.

Dana was a bright light in the world. She was always eager for new adventures. Her death is a great, great loss.
