I was a student of Dana's at the University of North Carolina Department of City & Regional Planning (DCRP) in 1989. She was an excellent teacher--one of my favorites--who obviously cared a great deal about her students. Even though she was a relatively young professor at the time, she really knew her stuff and intuitively knew how to help others learn. We were quite bummed to find out she was moving on, though I'm sure her life was full of similar successes. We honored her in our DCRP holiday skit that was a take-off of the Wizard of Oz. She was portrayed by a student in the lead role, "Danathy" about her odyssey in academia. She wasn't able to make the skit and I remember afterward telling her about it; she assumed we roasted her but I told her no, we honored her because she was such a good teacher. I'm sure she is deeply missed.
