DANI DUNIHO Obituary

DUNIHO DANI DUNIHO Dani Duniho, born at Quantico, VA, in 1942, having thoroughly enjoyed a long life filled with love, adventures, and even a few good deeds, went to a new life on November 21, 2021. She often said that she would eventually die "of the laundry", but there is no evidence that this was the case. She died of Primary Progressive Aphasia. Dani was the daughter of Col. Peter and Barbara Negri, USMC, who predecease her, as did her brothers, Peter Rea Negri and Michael Rea Negri. Her treasured lover and friend, husband Michael (Mickey) Alan Duniho, survives her as do their sons Peter Michael Duniho and Matthew Patrick Duniho. Her cherished daughter-in-law, Debra Sian-Li Tan, and remarkable grandsons, Flynn Hua Tan Duniho, Guinness Djin Tan Duniho, and Innaias Ming Tan Duniho will also hold her in their memories. Her daughter by choice, Alicia May Burnham Rose, also survives, as do her precious niece Renata Rea Negri and special cousin Kevin Michael Gabbard. She was also grateful for the many other relatives and friends beloved in her life. A graduate of the University of Florida (1963), Dani was a member of the University's "Singing Sweethearts" touring show ensemble as well as other musical organizations. Music was always a large part of her life, and the Oratorio Society of which she was an organizer, publicizer, fundraiser, and often President is still noted for its excellence more than 50 years later. Dani sang in her church choirs and in other choral organizations for most of her life, enjoying almost every form of music, with a special love for opera. Dani's various employments included the Heart of Florida Girl Scout Council, the National Security Agency, and seven years as the Executive Director of the Maryland Downtown Development Association. During her nearly 40 years living in Laurel, MD, she was active in national and local politics, and was a successful candidate for office herself, serving three terms as Councilmember and President of the Laurel City Council. She was then the first, and still only, woman elected Mayor of Laurel. Among other landmarks in that role, she initiated a non-profit social services program, the Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, now years later and to her eternal gratitude serving more than 2,000 individuals and families every year. Dani left public life to assist in the success of Solutions Incorporated, a computer design, software, and training consulting company created by her computer scientist husband Mickey. In 2002, Dani and Mickey moved to Tucson, AZ, acting on a long-held longing for the beauty and sunshine of the desert, and soon involving themselves in their new city's music, arts, and political environment. Adding new friends to the roster of those beloved of long standing was a pleasure to Dani, whose heart and often Mickey's and their home were open to many. The seriousness of her thinking was often leavened by humor and a resigned appreciation of life's absurdities. She cared for others as she was able, hoping for a world of peace, care for the earth, and love, and hoped to be remembered by those she loved so much. Dani's memorial service will be Saturday, April 30, 2022 at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson.Dani's memorial service will be Saturday, April 30, 2022 at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson.

I knew Dani as a fellow Irish Wolfhound lover and friend, and will miss her. May her name be as a blessing.

I sang in the Laurel Oratorio Society with Dani for several years we were the tall altos. She was a wonderful singer, an inspiration, and a leader of that organization. My most recent memory of her is a random encounter in 2008, when my husband and I were in Tucson as the first stop on a trip to Mexico. We were visiting an artist's homestead, and as I walked into the kitchen someone tapped me on the back and said, "Do you know me?" I turned around, and there, to my total amazement, was Dani! We had a good conversation until it was time for our bus to leave, and one of my traveling companions took a picture of us laughing together. My condolences to your family.
