I deployed with then CDR Desko in Operation Deep Freeze 1977. Accompanying photo was taken after that deployment. I am the Filipino sailor behind the officers. CDR Desko (CO, VXE-6) is shown giving awards.

My condolences and prayers to the Desko family. I worked with Dan many years at the TAX department. Besides being a deligent worker, he always was kind and a gentleman to all. He was proud of his family.

I was always so proud of our dads! Our families shared our lives for those couple of years at Pt. Mugu - good times. Dad still has penguin statues in the flower bed. :) I consider you all part of my family and have only warm memories of my time at Pt. Mugu. I pray for peace and comfort for you now. I hope you can feel the long-distance hug from me.

My sincere condolences to the Desco family and my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. My best flying in the Navy was in the Antarctic as part of VXE-6. Dan will be missed.

While a member of Patrol Squadron 21, The Blackjacks, as a young Ensign in the mid 60's, flew with then LCDR Desko as the TACO on Combat Air Crew 3, radio call, Airmail Three. Many memories of LCDR Desko.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. My fondest memories of the Navy are serving in VXE-6 in Antarctica. Dan was a big part of those memories. When "Old Antarctic Explorers" get together and share "Ice" stories, Dan will be remembered as a great Naval Aviator and Officer.

My thoughts and prayers to Dan and his family. He was a darn good Commanding Officer at VXE-6. The Helo guys and Herc guys were friendly rivals within the same squadron, which brought about a lot of kidding and ribbing. Dan kept us all grounded in our common mission.
