DANNA FISCHER Obituary

Danna Fischer
Of Arlington, VA, passed away on August 4, 2018. She was 63 years young, and is survived by her husband, Nick Bourne, also of Arlington, her sons, Chris and Matt Bourne, of Los Angeles, CA, and her sister, Rhonda McDonald, and brother, J. Nile Fischer, of Tarrant County, TX. Born in Ft. Worth, TX in 1955, Danna had an accomplished legal career. She graduated in 1980 from the University of Texas School of Law at Austin, where she was a member of the Texas Law Review. She clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Robert Hill (N.D. Tex.). After starting as an associate at the Jones Day law firm, Danna spent most of her nearly 35-year legal career in senior housing policy positions: Chief Counsel for the House Subcommittee on Housing and Community Development under Chairman Henry B. Gonzalez (D. TX); government-relations and senior-counsel positions at Freddie Mac; Legislative Dir./Counsel at the National Low Income Housing Coalition; and Senior Policy Advisor at the Community Builders, Inc. Danna's focus on professional opportunities was always secondary, though. She provided a constant source of unconditional love and support for her family. She was a consistent, principled advocate for progressive politics. She spent nearly two decades volunteering at the Yorktown High School theater department, starting when her sons were students there and continuing through this spring. For those efforts, the Arlington County School Board in 2016 designated Danna an "Honored Citizen," a recognition that is "awarded annually to those special volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to Arlington Public Schools." Danna was a joyful and creative cook for family and friends. And in recent years, she drew great satisfaction creating exquisite pieces of art, which grace her home.  Danna lived a beautiful life that ended much too soon. Friends are invited to celebrate Danna's life, starting at 12 noon, September 15, 2018, at Yorktown High School's Black Box Theatre, 5200 Yorktown Blvd, Arlington, VA 22207. Danna's family will receive friends at the Bourne/Fischer home following the service.
