David E. Gichner
On Friday, September 14, 2018 of Chevy Chase, MD. Beloved husband of Carol S. Gichner; former husband of the late Frances R. Gichner; father of Laura G. Sachwitz (Erik), Allison B. Rosen, Eric A. Gichner (Jackie), Arthur J. Rosen (Candace) and the late Steven F. Gichner (Sandra); brother of Bette Hoffman (Arnold), Sue Rosenthal (John) and the late Flora Eisenberg (Ted); also survived by 11 grandchildren. Funeral service at Temple Rodef Shalom, 2100 Westmoreland St. Falls Church, VA 22043 on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Interment King David Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life with Cancer www.lifewithcancer.org.

I wanted to send a personal letter with my condolences to all of you, Eric, Laura, Carol and the rest of the family, but sadly, I seemed to have little contact information. Then I remembered how David was the primary connector who kept me in touch with the extended family so many states, generations and life moves. I could always catch up on everyonelse's news just by talking to him. So many memories.... a fierce tennis player ... checking up on me the years I lived in Las Vegas...explaining his "system" for craps... how he "got in" with the gals at the city by bringing them cookies.... as he emerged as a patriarch, without ever losing his amazing combination of wit and and solid judgement... first responder on my father life alert button ....and of course, he and Carol and his children were a tremendous support when Dad passed..... David was always on call, and believed in the importance of family, and lived it. There was only one of him, and I feel blessed to have had him in my life and family.
