DAVID LEE HAMILTON

July 29, 1948 - October 11, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Lee Hamilton on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. David is survived by his wife of 50 years, Fannie Marie Hamilton, daughter, Mrs. Nia Egwim and son, Mr. David Lee Hamilton, Jr. Son-in-law, Dr. Kelechi Egwim and Carolyn Saunders. He is also survived by his brothers Dr. Robert Hamilton, Jr. and Mr. Isaac Hamilton. David's legacy lives on through his seven grandchildren : Chinwe, Ulunma, Ezenwa, Amaranna, Obial, Adayana, and Zola along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and close friends. David, a native Washingtonian, graduated from Calvin Coolidge Senior High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture from Howard University and his Master's in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University. In addition to serving as an Architect/Urban Designer with the National Capital Planning Commission of Washington, DC, he was also a professional photographer for over 40 years. David was an active member of Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, DC where he served as a Sunday School teacher for adult students, delving deep into and teaching the Word of God to his fellow parishioners. David was also active in several neighborhood organizations that focused on facilitating continued camaraderie among its residents. His physical presence will be missed by many, but his spirit will live on in all of us who were blessed to be with and around him throughout his life. A service and celebration of his life is scheduled for a later date.

so sad to say gbye to David! Fannie, thank you for being his wonderful partner for so long. I remember him from when we were 15 years old in Sunday School in 1963. So proud he went on to teach adult sunday school later and so glad he was my friend all these years. Loved his photography and his stubborn funny sense of humor and spirit. David was a rare person, an artist who worked in an allied profession and made it all work. Also proud he followed my parents and others in helping lead neighborhood organizing and Neighbors, Inc., all of that. blessings on his spirit and all of ours
