David had the organization of a military man but the gentleness of a clergyman. I knew him since 1992 though our collaboration and support of his wife Akiko Keene who helped me in many ways with the cherry blossom festival as an intepreter for Japanese guests. Although David was losing eyesight in recent years, I had a wonderful dinner with him in June 2007 and we talked about many topics. Before the problem with his eyes, he was a good photographer and I still have and value many of his photographs. I will miss him and extend great sympathy and prayer for Akiko and thier daughter.
