Dr. David McLeod, "Chief", was a formidable ground breaker and most outstanding military leader in the field of urology related to prostate cancer.

He was instrumental in maybe saving my life by his successful radical prostatectomy on me in June, 2005. I honor him and will always revere his memory.

I was visiting Ft. Myer on 16 May 22 and witnessed the patriotic funeral for Dr. David McLeod. I saw a young turkey pea hen walk up and letdown in the parking lot behind the band. I took pictures and filmed this. When the band marched into Arlington National Cemetery, the turkey got up and ran after them and walked next to the last officer. If you would like these pictures and video, please contact me and I will forward.

Dr. McLeod was truly the "gold standard" as a physician, surgeon and human being to which all in the profession of medicine should aspire to emulate. I will always be indebted to him as will my wife on the kind manner in which he dealt with us before and after the very successful surgery he performed on me in June of 2005. We honor
his memory. May he Rest In Peace.

My heart is broken to hear this news. Dr, McLeod was one of a kind. As the Chief of Manpower at Walter Reed, I dealt with him often. He amazed me how he could make things happen. He had a heart of gold. RIP my friend.

Dr. McLeod - a fine doctor, mentor, comedian, legacy. While working in Urology as an administrative professional from 1996-1999 in the Urology Stone Center under Dr. Irby, I was honored to work with this medical genius. I will never forget the day I met Dr. McLeod. Hanging on to the scrub jacket of Chamsi Brown, RN, and floating around the 4th floor at WRAMC to meet staff, my encounter with him was one I will never forget. Just as Chamsi was about to push open the double doors heading to his office area, he kicked them open (obviously upset about what he called "Try-and Care" (TRICARE). I shoved my hand forward to shake his while introducing myself. I told him I was impressed with his kick, but that it was far too early to ruin our relationship in Urology. He laughed. That was a good sign. We had many more laughs about me being from Alabama - he joked about this more times than I can count. Dr. McLeod will be missed by many. He was THE father of the Urology Department at WRAMC. Such a phenomenal being! Rest in peace, sir!

Today, is 29 January 2021 and unfortunately this is the first time hearing about Dr David McLeod passing. Because of this pandemic we are facing, isolation has been going on far too long. I worked for the Army Surgeon General's Office in Washington DC/Virginia within the Army Graduate Medical Education office for 42 years. I worked with very closely with Dr McLeod for many of those years and truly loved this man. We often disagreed many times but respected each other 100%. He was a dedicated soldier and physician. Always taking great care with his residents and training them to be the best urologist throughout their career. I will always cherish the memories of you and it was an honor to work with you and consider you a very "special friend". May you rest in peace and I have no doubt you are in heaven with angel wings. Prayers to your family during this difficult time. God Bless the US Army and the USA. He was a friend and I will miss him dearly.

David McLeod was the absolute best in so many ways- superb urologist, committed military officer and much more. He exemplified service and leadership and was fiercely loyal to patients, colleagues and military medicine. He was always looking for ways to improve patient care and how it was provided. In many ways he was Army Medicine at its best. We will all miss his humor, his sharp wit and his presence- larger than life! His legacy lives on with a great family, all those he trained and mentored and his patients. He was a friend and I miss him.

Chief, you are in a much better place now. I will always fondly remember my time as a resident, then as colleague. I especially remember going on Saturday morning rounds at WRAMC to look for loose stretchers and broken items to take to the Command suite. I always considered you as my second father, for the guidance and camaraderie you shared with me. In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

Dave was one year behind me in his Walter Reed residency in the old hospital on 16th Ave. We worked and studied very hard under Cols. VanBuskirk, Evan Lewis, Mittemeyer and Schamber. But we played hard too when we could, remember Claudia?
Dave went on to greater adventures and military medicine and his patients were the beneficiaries.
Our sympathies go out to Claudia and family

Anyone who served at WRAMC with Dr. McLeod new him to be the consummate physician, educator, officer and gentleman. He had high standards and made sure his patients got excellent care. If WRAMC had a hall of fame, he would definitely be in it.

Dr. McLeod was a great leader, physician, teacher and role model for the multitudes he touched. He was always there to offer support, motivation and correction when needed.
Dr. McLeod guided so many from being a physician to being a urologic surgeon with confidence to treat the most complex patients and their families.
He is sorely missed. Volumes could be and have been written about his contributions to his patients, urology, military medicine and medical literature. God bless Dr. McLeod and may he rest in peace.

I pray God's comfort, support and mercy on his family, friends and colleagues during this time of deep sorrow and loss. Celebrate the joyous and triumphant times of Dr. McLeod's life.

COL(Ret) David McLeod did not just exemplify an Era, he created an Era. Thousands if not tens of thousands of patients across the military and the nation and indeed the globe, benefited directly or indirectly from his work as a military physician, researcher, and creator of the legendary CPDR and further on our Murtha Cancer Center / Research Program. He trained a myriad of Urologists over his decades of service. With his research program and physicians he trained as well as all of those like myself that he mentored, the Legacy of David McLeod will live on as we honor everything he stood for and embodied. Thank you to his Family for sharing him with us throughout his life. We honor you, his memory, and our prayers are with you always.

David was a true visionary! He was able to see more in a single event than most. In my 20 years of service ,I never saw anyone use the "system" more effectively than Dave. He truly was able to turn lemons into lemonade. He also was a terrific human being, compassionate, and a superb physician, and above all a true LEADER! He did more for the practice of Urology and the Urology Residency Program at Walter Reed, than any other prior Chief of service. Above all, Dave was a friend and mentor. He was instrumental in the development of my medical career, and so many more urologists. He turned the Residency program into a powerhouse of talent. He also, turned the program into a first class research program, the Center for Prostate Disease Research. Even after his retirement, he continued to stay involved in urology. Dave touched the lives of many physicians, and they and their patients are better for it. My deepest sympathy to Claudia and family.
