David loved our DC Statehood Green Party, as did I. He sacrificed family, his health, and more to run for office to maintain Party presence in this City.
ELIMINATING CHILD POVERTY and his demand for ELECTED LEADERS TO SERVE THE MANY, NOT THE FEW were not slogans to David. As I mourn his transition and send condolences to his wife and two sons, those mantras are now my battlecry--in David's honor. David, I miss you and your seismic impact on our DC Statehood Green Party will forever be unmatched.

David was a fierce defender of faculty governance in Howard University´s Faculty Senate. I had the honor to work with him there starting about 2010. What I miss most is having beers near campus with other faculty trouble makers, his boundless energy & optimism; and endless funny stories. So Dave, have you organized the spirit world yet?

David was one of the most activist people I have known. He combined an interest in the environment and science with socialist politics in a way one seldom sees.

I met David Schwartzman in 1973. From the start, he was a Mensch. That´s Yiddish for a person of high integrity, honor and good character. We African Americans call such a white man a Righteous Brother. He was a scholar/activist. He used his scientific knowledge to study the effects of lead in the water system especially for Black and Brown children. His actions lead the city and perhaps the nation to address the dangers of lead in the water. His demand for testing led the city to take action. Now residents of Washington, D.C. are having their old lead pipes removed and replaced at the expense of the city. He was a consistent and not a fair weather anti-racist. He was a proud Jewish man who was also a devout anti-Zionist. He demanded Statehood and Justice for the people of Palestine and for the people of Washington, D.C. He was a proud father and grandfather. He was a long time, Sixteenth Street Heights neighbor and family friend who dazzled Laura and me and our children, Lena and Miles, with stories of lichen, soil animals and UFOs. He will be sorely missed.

Dave and I were friends and faculty senate colleagues from 1970 until he retired in2012. He was the kind of person that never raised his voice but always made you think about what he said I am so sorry he has passed.

David was kind, compassionate, smart and a relentless fighter for peace, justice, democracy and ecological sustainability. The world was a better place with him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
David Schwartzman, presente!

David and Joanne hosted many parties at their home in northwest DC. One time he hosted a party where the guest of honor was the Green Party Presidential Candidate.

Joel Kovel and I very very fond of David-- his energy, his sense of humor and his deep love of socialism. His work will live on and gains importance every day.

I cannot convey the sorrow I'm in with the loss of my mentor, my hero, my comrade, my friend, David Schwartzman...David left our space with his beloved wife Joanne, by his side.
Thank you for the years of mentoring you bestowed upon me; even trusting me to lead--where you chose to be a most loyal follower (teaching along the way). Your patience, foresight and strategic planning made you a genius in my eyes. Thank you also for joining Sincere Seven as Board member on January 23, 2015 and giving us a decade of your wisdom.
Thank you David for showing me how and why to be a Statehood Green--FOR LIFE...a loss for our social change community, progressive activist family--humanity. I love you David.
