DAVID SIEGEL Obituary

David Sherman Siegel  (Age 86)
Beloved, David passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Suburban Hospital after fighting heart disease and lymphoma. Graveside services took place on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Judean Gardens in Olney, MD.  Born in the Bronx, NY, David lived most of his life in Silver Spring, MD. As a youngster, his father's career in the Navy stationed the family in Key West, FL and Long Beach, CA, inspiring his life-long interest in big ships, planes, and technology. Graduating from CCNY with a degree in Physics, he received his Master's Degree from American University. Starting at the Bureau of Standards, he spent most of his career at the Office of Naval Research, enjoying the integration of science and project management. With a great love of learning, David was an avid reader, enjoyed history, and world affairs, and had unending patience to persevere. He enjoyed sharing his many passions.  David was an adored and cherished family patriarch. He and wife Betty Pitt of 60 years have three children - Ellen, married to Ted Chanin; Doug, married to Susanne Wilson; and Rachel, married to Brian Boxman. Grandchildren Alycia and Matthew Chanin, Sarah Siegel, and Naomi and Leah Boxman were bright stars in his life. He and Betty hosted many high-spirited gatherings. His bellowing voice and laughter as well as his dance floor moves were contagious. David is also survived by his sister Linda Buchsbaum and her children, Marisa and Lee, as well as by sister-in-law Elaine Weisblatt and daughter Wendy.
