DAVID STEARMAN Obituary

DAVID L. STEARMAN
David L. Stearman, 91, of Chevy Chase, MD, passed away on November 30, 2021. Born on August 8, 1930, Dave was the son of May and Maurice Stearman and younger brother of Selma, Ethyle, and Bettye. Dave was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 61 years, Bernice Stearman, and beloved son Steven.David, a native Washingtonian and proud graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and George Washington University, was active for many years in the construction industry, building homes throughout the region with his partner Bill Kaplan. He was a dedicated supporter of several local charities that provide support and services to aging individuals and families, and volunteered at a crisis hotline for many years. In the 1980s, he and Bernice began collecting Native American pottery, a passion that grew to include a wide variety of crafts that he treasured for the rest of his life.A builder at heart, in retirement, David led the architectural committee at his condominium in Chevy Chase, helping to arrange the replacement of massive rooftop HVAC units on the building's roof just this past August. David was a regular attendee at Torah study at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church. When not studying Torah, he could often be found, martini in hand, tapping along to the swinging sounds of Charlie Parker or rooting for the Washington Nationals. His relationship with the WFT (nee Redskins) soured following the team's purchase by Dan Snyder. Most of all, Dave enjoyed spending time with his beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.Dave is survived by sons Robert (Pamela) and Gary (Kathleen) Stearman; daughter Lynne (Alan) Falick; grandchildren Daniel (Jeanine), Paul, Natalie, Patrick, May, and Michael Stearman and Maya Falick; great-grandchildren James and Luke Stearman; and dear friend and companion Rita Bloom.A funeral service will be held at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia at 10 a.m. on December 3, 2021. A private interment for immediate family will follow. Donations in David's memory may be made to Roosevelt High at friendsofroosevelthsdc.org. Miss you "Uncle Dave"--remember you as the most "liberal" of my parents close friends in your parenting and always a pleasure to talk to about sports and politics.

One of the nicest guys on the planet. I have such fond memories of him. Was a wonderful friend to my parents, Alex and Jackie, and always made me feel special when I was a mischievous little boy. The world needs more people like Dave. My deepest condolences to Bobby, Gary, Lynne and all the branches that stem from Dave and Bernice. I only hope your pain will be minimal and that the lifetime of wonderful memories lives on forever. Peace....

Although a different generation from David and Bernice I knew them through my parents, Leo and Iris Wilder. They were extraordinarily kind individuals. Following my father's passing, I had the opportunity to speak with Dave on several occasions regarding Parc Somerset, where my mother was a resident. I enjoyed our chats and appreciated Dave's warmth and intelligence. I thought as highly of him as I know my parents did. He left a lasting impression and his presence will be deeply missed. On behalf of my mother and myself, I send his family and friends sincere condolences.
