DAVID LESTER THOMAS, SR.  
David Lester Thomas, Sr., of Glenn Dale, MD, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at age 82. Only the effects of a lifetime of living with Asbestosis could stop the big heart of the man affectionately known as Davie Dumplin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Miriam Moore Thomas; son, David Lester Thomas, Jr. (Sarah), and daughters, Amy Marie Thomas (Kate McInnerney), and Holly Thomas Richardson (Ian). He was the proud grandfather of three boys whom he had the pleasure of seeing grow up to be fine young men, David L Thomas III, Andrew Thomas, and Evan Richardson. He was predeceased by his parents Roland "Puddie" and Lillie Thomas and his four brothers Rollie, Frank, James, and Richard. Davie was a devoted member of Collington Lodge # 230 and Local 24 of the Asbestos Workers Union. He cherished the friendship and community of his many brothers. The family offers special thanks to Lambert's and Miss Helen's restaurants, where Davie spent many hours sharing breakfast with the company of family and friends, and to Dr. Ellegant Pearson, who provided him with excellent and loving care during the final months of his life. Viewing and visitation will be held at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, on Thursday, May 18, from 2 to 4 and 6 to p.m. A Masonic ceremony will be performed at 7 p.m. On Friday, May 19, at 3 p.m., there will be a graveside gathering at Perkins Chapel, 8606 Springfield Road, Glenn Dale. Following the brief service, the family will move down the hill to the Glenn Dale United Methodist Church for an open house Celebration of Life and pancake supper from 4 to 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, John & Cathy Belcher Campus, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena 21122.
