DAVID GEORGE WOODFIELD (Age 76)  
Of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 1, 2014 following a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. David was born August 13, 1938 in Olney, MD, the son of the late George W. and Elizabeth Virts Woodfield. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wilma Hoffman Woodfield, daughters Debra A. Woodfield and Sharon B. Woodfield, and his grandson, Alexander David Smith. He is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Woodfield Lehman and Marianne Woodfield Cardea, mother-in-law, Mabel Hoffman, brother-in-law Frenis W. Hoffman, Jr. and wife Faye, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many special friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Frenis W. Hoffman, Sr. Dave will also be missed by his grand-kitties, Dixie and Emy Jo, and his grand-dog, Tessa. David graduated from Gaithersburg High School and attended Montgomery College. In 1967, he and his young family moved from Gaithersburg to Frederick County. He retired in 1992 with 33 years of service from the US Postal Service, primarily at the Twinbrook Substation. The year following his retirement, he became the stand-in babysitter for his new grandson, Alex. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading (especially history), golfing, and watching the Washington Redskins. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and for many years he was a member of the Tuscarora Archery Club and the Cresap Rifle Club and passed on his love of hunting and fishing to his grandson. He was a member of the ROMEO club (retired old men eating out) at the Roy Rogers Restaurant on Opossumtown Pike. He was proud to serve his country when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956.Special thanks to Hospice of Frederick County for the caring and compassionate support they provided David and his family.The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD where a memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. The Rev. Franklin D. Bishop (his wife's uncle) will officiate. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Tuscarora Archery Club, PO Box 403, Frederick, MD, 21705 or Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick MD 21702. Yeah I remember when mr. Dave took me over past Yellow Springs to where he like to shoot his bow and arrows. Of course I was being bad and he had to yell at me... LOL. Typical back then. But he really was always very kind to me and I appreciated that.

Our condolences go to you and your family. I didn't know David but I knew his father, a very nice man. My father, John, and David were first cousins. My father also died of cancer when he was 73. Like Karl Newell, David was my first best friend and next door neighbor in Gaithersburg. Most of my childhood memories are of adventures with David. Although we lived many miles apart and did not see each other in later life, I will miss knowing he is there My thoughts are with Wilma and family.

I am so sorry to read of Dave's passing. Having worked with him for several years, my memory of Dave was a fun loving wonderful man who was respected in our office. He was someone I looked up to when I started at the Post Office and was sorry when he retired as he was missed. Prayers to his family.
