DEAN HINTON Obituary

HINTON Dean Stevan Hinton Passed away from complications related to COVID on February 4, 2022, in Bethesda,MD. He was born in Washington, DC on September 7th, 1970 to Albert and Linda Hinton. Dean grew up in Potomac, MD and graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA in 1988. While at his beloved Mercersburg, Dean competed on the diving and cross country teams. He also was involved in several of the schools drama productions. After his graduation, Dean attended the University of Vermont, where his adventurous spirit led him to enroll in the Semester at Sea program. This global expedition inspired his lifelong obsession with travel. He spent his senior year of college studying at the University of Barcelona, and he continued to live in Spain for several years following his graduation. Upon his return to the states, Dean also attended the Texas A&M Maritime Academy. His wanderlust continued with stints living in El Salvador, Taipei, Nova Scotia, and Key west. Whether he was learning a language or teaching a language, Dean totally immersed himself in the local culture and established international friendships. On one of his intrepid adventures to Eastern Europe, he met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Tanya. The two of them continued to travel the world together, along with Dean's son, Dean Jr. Dean passed along his love of music, languages and sports to his son. When Dean was only 13, he earned a Black Belt in Taekwondo, and encouraged his son to do the same. He served as a mentor to Dean, Jr. helping him to master his skills. The two also spent many happy hours bike riding, rollerblading, skiing and playing soccer together. One of his greatest gifts to his son was emphasizing the importance of learning multiple languages. By the age of 10, Dean Jr. was already fluent in three. As an adult Dean experimented with many different careers, including English teacher, Spanish teacher, book seller, stock trading, and Skipper etc., before eventually becoming a real estate investor. Dean is survived by his spouse, Tetiana of Bethesda, MD; and his young son, Dean Jr., from a previous marriage. He is also survived by his parents, Al and Linda Hinton of Potomac, MD; and his siblings, Donnie Hinton of Delray Beach, FL, Donna Hinton Aubinoe of Bethesda, MD, and Devin Hinton of Bethesda, MD, and many loving nieces and nephews. Dean and I went to mercersburg together. He was a very close friend in our younger days and I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing. Although we have not been in touch recently, I will always remember his warm heart and smile. My prayers are with his family, especially his son who he shared was his "mini me" - his pride and joy. May God be with all of you during this heartbreaking time.
