Del Ankers Obituary
ANKERS DEL ANKERS (Age 91) On Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home in Great Falls, VA. Beloved husband of Maria Elizabeth Freire. He was a renowned photographer and documentary producer whose international career spanned 60 years. Ankers photographed U.S. Presidents from FDR to Nixon and celebrities including Buster Keaton, Grace Kelly and the original Muppets. As a producer, he filmed many works for German television. His works can be seen in the Newseum Archives and the National Cathedral. Relatives and friends are invited to Del's Life Celebration at MONEY & KING FUNERAL HOME, 171 Maple Avenue West, Vienna, VA on Monday, May 19 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Ashburn Presbyterian Church, 20962 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA on Tuesday, May 20 at 11 a.m. Interment National Memorial Park. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to House of Ruth Development Office, 5 Thomas Circle, NW, Washington, DC 20005. O my uncle del. Always had a lot of great ambition. I remember he told me to put old clothes on when you go to a yard sale. You get a better deal. He always has the energy of a 20 year old. And his first love his first wife my aunt Elizabeth. Was truly a saint helping everyone.. miss them both..

I met Del just a few weeks before his passing--when I tried to help with hospice care using natural methods. He was very special-- I am glad I met he and Elizabeth.

I knew Del as a member of the Washington Host Lions Club. He was always a warm and generous person. I will miss his great personality.

I knew Del for the last 11 yrs of his life. That was not enough. I wish I had had the pleasure of knowing him much sooner. What a kind and gentle man he was. We love him and will miss him. God Bless you Del

Del Ankers took many photographs, now part of our official archives, for both the Cathedral Choral Society and for Washington National Cathedral. What a fascinating career he had! May he rest in peace.
