Denis Kevin McGuinness

Denis Kevin McGuinness (Age 69) of San Diego, CA died on September 14, 2023, at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla surrounded by his family and friends.

Kevin was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps with 20 years of military service. He was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Hawaii in 1993. In 1997 he was given a U.S. Marine Corps Certificate of Commendation while stationed at the Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego. Both awards were for his exceptional performance managing hazardous waste and his continued training of sailors and marines on environmental management. In 1997 Kevin retired to the private sector. He returned to civilian government service in 2000.

Kevin loved his family, friends, and his dog, Mele. He pursued many volunteer opportunities, from teaching English while stationed in Japan to working with food banks in San Diego. His many interests included travel; bodybuilding; running ultra-marathons; golf; and, most recently, acting. Kevin developed his skills as a comic and dramatic actor in the DC metro area and San Diego, CA. One of his proudest accomplishments was his last dramatic role with the PowPAC Theater in Poway, CA. The role was Mr. Green in the play, "Visiting Mr. Green", by Jeff Baron. For that role he received the PowPac 2022-2023 Season Award for Ensemble Work.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Chikako Takemoto McGuinness; his sister, Elizabeth J. McGuinness; his brother, James D. McGuinness; his many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Frank Lopez.

He was predeceased by his parents, John M. and M. Gertrude McGuinness; his brothers, John M. McGuinness Jr. and Marc F. McGuinness, and his sisters, Patricia McGuinness Cashell and Margaret McGuinness Seyedin.

Family and friends will meet on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate Kevin's life at The 4 Corners Pub located on 10111 Sutherland Road in Silver Spring, MD.

Kevin enhanced our lives through activities, from golf and biking to card games and Wi. I think you could say competitive sports were a thrill for him. Who runs 100 miles within 24hrs, Kevin! He pushed himself to excel while having fun too.
He will be missed by many
