Ms. Boyd/Sister Boyd--that's what we called her growing up at St. Matthews church. She set an example for the young people growing up there and in the choirs that she organized for us to sing in. She was a disciplinarian, yet kind and giving while always guiding young people in the right direction. The most obvious example I keep in my heart and try to live by is how gracefully she could apologize and forgive others at times of disagreement and continue to support and love on them rather they supported her or not. She knew her promise, her promotion and her help came from the Lord and not man. That's a Godly woman's example for us all to follow. Thank you Hughes family for sharing your mother, aunt, grandmother, sister with the rest of us. She will be missed throughout the entire Washington DC area and beyond. We pray your peace and comfort during this time. Love y'all.

To the Hughes and Edmondson Family, my prayers are with you. Pastor Doris was truly an awesome woman of God. I thank God for the many days I spent with her as a co-worker on Capital Hill, and as her drummer with the CCV Ensemble. Pastor Doris truly loved young people. Bill, Bruce and Cynthia keep living for Christ and you'll see her again over in glory. God Bless

To the Hughes Family: Although I know you will miss your Mom, Grandma, & Sister, you can take comfort in knowing that Doris Boyd is with the Lord. She was truly a servant of and a champion for Christ. I have fond memories of being a member of the CCV Ensemble during the mid 1990's, and I will treasure that time in my life. Mrs. Boyd often prayed for me and with me; as well as kept me encouraged. I am so blessed to have met and known her. I will smile now each time I think of her catch phrase "In order to have friends you must show yourself friendly". May Mrs. Boyd Rest in Peace. God Bless you Family.
