Douglas Scott Fuller
Douglas Scott Fuller, loving husband, adoring father, loyal friend and highly successful government relations executive, passed away on October 19, 2022 at his residence in Alexandria, Virginia. He was 59.
Born in 1963 in Denver, Colorado to parents John and Barbara, Doug and his family eventually moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he attended Clark High School. After graduating, Doug matriculated to the University of Nevada-Reno where he studied economics.
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from UNR in 1985, Doug was hired by U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt of Nevada as a press and legislative aide. Senator Laxalt was considered President Ronald Reagan's closest political ally at the time. Doug later moved to the Republican National Committee, which was chaired by another Nevadan, Frank Fahrenkopf.
Doug later ran the 1988 re-election campaign of US Senator Chic Hecht. He then worked at the US Department of Labor while attending the prestigious George Washington University School of Law. In 1994, while graduating from law school, he served as campaign manager for his friend and fellow "Laxalt alum", Hal Furman.
Thereafter, Doug enjoyed a long and distinguished career in Alaskan politics – working for legendary figures such as Senator Ted Stevens and Congressman Don Young.
He eventually entered the private sector as a Vice President at the Gold Institute before joining the prestigious Alaskan-based firm of Birch, Horton, Bittner & Cherot.
Doug ended his remarkable professional career as the Senior Vice President and Government Relations Counsel for Chenega – a highly successful Alaska Native village corporation that, among other successes, benefits its Native shareholders.
For all of his professional accomplishments, Doug considered his loving family his greatest achievement. It all started on July 6, 1991, when he married the love of his life on a beautiful day in San Diego, California. Cindy would remain the love of his life until the very end. She also prospered in the business world and was, Doug would acknowledge, his "Rock of Gibraltar". From that beautiful relationship came Doug's precious daughters – Katie and Megan. He was so proud of them and loved them dearly. Katie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Xavier University in Cincinnati. Megan is excelling at Butler University in Indianapolis.
Doug Fuller was a remarkable person who achieved remarkable things during his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
And a note to the Denver Broncos: Doug will be keeping a close eye on you from Heaven.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents John and Barbara and his father-in-law, Carl. He is survived by wife Cindy of Alexandria, Virginia; daughters Katie of Madrid, Spain and Megan of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother Gary (Donna) of Reno; brother Randy (Kim) of Las Vegas; sister Sandy Abrams (Albert) of Henderson, Nevada; sister-in-law, Susan of Alexandria, and mother-in-law, Nancy of San Diego; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home located at 1500 W Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Doug's favorite charity, The Mike Rowe Works Foundation.
