E. A. Sharp (Age 90)   Capt. US. Navy (Ret.)  
Of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Erwin Arthur Sharp was born on June 3,1931 in Berkshire, New York to Albert Curtis and Dorothy Doris (Decker) Sharp.Erwin graduated from Newark Valley Central School in 1948. In August of 1950 he joined, what would become his career, the U.S. Navy. During his career he rose through the ranks of the enlisted to become a commissioned officer. He graduated from both the University of Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin. In his over 40 years of service, he was assigned to many high-profile staff positions until retiring from the Joint Chiefs of Staff under General Colin Powell. During his lifetime he enjoyed watching and playing baseball, softball, bowling, golf, and running. He mostly enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.He is survived by his wife, Eve, daughter, Melinda (Michael) Cronk, stepchildren, Douglas Sleeman, Jr., Mary Eve Phelps, brother, Ronald (Carol) Sharp, granddaughters, Mary Beth, Heather, Kim, Tara, Trisha, and Tami, step grandchildren, Joshua, Amy, and Brandi, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.He is predeceased by his parents, brother Edward, late wife, Mary Lynn, and daughter, Sindi Lynn. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a funeral service follow immediately after at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28560.
