EDITH SCHECTER Obituary


EDITH GINSBURG SCHECTER (Age 96)  
Died peacefully at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads in Falls Church, Virginia, on February 8, 2017. Born in 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she showed early artistic talent, beginning her art training at the age of eight. She studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, the University of Cincinnati, and the School of Fashion Art in Cincinnati. During the 1940's she pursued a career as a fashion illustrator for department stores in Fort Wayne, Indiana (Wolf and Dessauer); Memphis, Tennessee (Lowenstein's); and Washington, DC (Palais Royal and Woodward and Lothrop). She enjoyed a long and happy 46-year marriage to the late Sidney Schecter, a civil engineer and World War II veteran, who died in 1989. Edith is survived by two sons, Stephen Schecter of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Daniel Schecter of Alexandria, Virginia; as well as three beloved grandchildren, Erica Schecter of Brooklyn, New York, Jeffrey Schecter of San Francisco, California, and Sara Schecter Hayes of Richmond, Virginia. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Ann Hayes and Riley Grahe Hayes of Richmond. A private family interment will be held at King David Memorial Garden in Falls Church, Virginia. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 25 at Goodwin House Baileys Crossroads, 3440 S. Jefferson St, Falls Church, Virginia, 22041. Family and friends of Edith are warmly invited.
