EDMUND SPENCER Obituary


Edmund B. Spencer  
Capt. U.S. Navy (Ret.)  Edmund Berle Spencer passed away on October 7, 2019. Edmund was born in Jacksonville, FL on July 6, 1937 and grew up at Jacksonville Beach until he attended college under a NROTC Scholarship at Vanderbilt University, receiving his BSME in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. He then became a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy and first served on the USS Bennington and then, as a qualified Submarine Officer, served on the USS Volador and the USS Thomas A. Edison. After completing his tour of active duty, Edmund attended Texas A&M University and received his MSCE Degree in Ocean and Coastal Engineering. He continued his service to his country by continuing as a member of the USN Reserve, retiring as a Captain after 28 years. He worked for the Department of the Navy as a Professional Engineer until his retirement. Edmund was a 48-year McLean, Virginia resident. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia A. Spencer, daughter and son, Paige Spencer and Paul Spencer, their spouses, and four grandchildren. Edmund enjoyed many camping, fishing, and travel adventures, as well as volunteer service in his community. He cherished his family and many friends, and was an avid baseball and bluegrass devotee. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.Graveside Interment Service will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 9 a.m. Guests should arrive by 8:15 a.m. at the Administration Building.

I think of you so often Uncle Edmund. I miss your smile and the giant bear hugs you would give on your visits to Florida. I might SS my mom, Bernie, your sister who loved you so very much. I hope you are both together in heaven. I´ll always love you and miss you. Susan
