EDWARD ADELSON Obituary

EDWARD ADELSON
On Monday, August 31, 2015. Edward Adelson was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Latvian immigrants, on September 14, 1923. He was educated at Boston Latin School, Tufts University and the Tufts University School of Medicine, both magna cum laude. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Boston City Hospital, and a fellowship in hematology at the New England Medical Center in Boston. As a Captain in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he performed important research on blood substitutes while stationed at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and later research on platelet survival at George Washington University Medical School. During this time, he met Lois (nee Potts), the love of his life. They married in 1954. A much admired internist and specialist in hematology, Dr. Adelson retired from his practice with Dr. Sandra Ginsberg when he was 85 years old, one of the most experienced medical doctors in the District of Columbia. To his patients, he was not only a healer, but also a dear friend. He is survived by his loving wife Lois, his devoted children, Andrew (Linda), Nancy (Lewis Clayton) and Stephen (Lisa), and six adoring grandchildren, Laura and Michael Adelson, Elizabeth and Robert Clayton and Samuel and Zoe Adelson. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Temple Sinai, 3100 Military Road, N.W. at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at King David Memorial Gardens, Falls Church, VA. Contributions in his memory may be made to the University of Maryland Foundation, Inc., earmarked for the Edward and Lois Adelson Scholarship in Music, a fund established by one of his patients.
