ANUTA, EDWARD RAYMOND (Age 96)

EDWARD RAYMOND ANUTA, of Phoenix, AZ, formerly of Tippecanoe County, died at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005, at his daughter's residence in Phoenix. He was born in Pound, WI on August 29, 1909 and had resided most of his life in West Lafayette, IN. He married Geraldine (Shriner, maiden name) Anuta on October 21, 1933 in Chicago, IL and she preceded him on December 8, 1995.

Mr. Anuta graduated from Hammond High School in 1928 and from Purdue University School of Pharmacy in 1933 as a Pharmaceutical Chemist. He was first employed at Ansul Chemical Company in Marinette, Wisconsin as a Chemist, then he worked for Badger Paper Mills in Peshtigo WI, then for the Chamber of Commerce in Lafayette; he owned and operated two Anuta Drug Stores in Lafayette from 1943 to 1951, and in 1951 he joined the faculty at Purdue University in the Chemistry Department in charge of chemistry laboratories and was an Instructor until his retirement in 1973. From 1950 to 1969 he was owner and Manager of Shriner-Anuta Farms in Monon, IN.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #724 in West Lafayette, and a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, West Lafayette Optimist Club and a life member of the Lafayette Elks Club in Lafayette and in Phoenix. He participated in the People to People Tour of Agricultural Sites in Russia and Eastern Europe exchanging best practices.

Surviving are three sons, Phillip Anuta of Vernon Hills, IL, David Anuta (wife, Margaret) of Warsaw, IN and Dr. Paul Anuta (wife, Dianna) of LaPlata, MD; a daughter Judith McFadden of Phoenix, AZ; and two sisters Esther Bond and Inez Santry both of Sun City, AZ.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at HIPPENSTEEL FUNERAL HOME. Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Episcopal Church. Father Edward Tourangeau, officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. He was a man of endless inventiveness and craftmanship, and had a lifelong love of fishing.

Preceded in death by his parents, Michael Samuel and Charlotte (Maiden name, Czudnochowski) Anuta; four brothers, and three sisters.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flowers St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.
