Edward Victor Nef

Edward Victor Nef passed away on August 4, 2025, at the age of 91 surrounded by his family in Northern Virginia.
Ed was born in New York City, NY on October 20, 1933, to a Swiss diplomat father and Polish mother. He attended Phillips Academy, Andover before graduating from Harvard in 1955. After 2 years in the US Army, Ed entered the US Foreign Service in 1959, serving in Senegal, Guatemala, Colombia, and Canada. He served 4 years with the US Peace Corps. His last years in the Federal government were spent working for Senator Max Baucus of Montana. His next adventure was as a language school owner, having schools in the DC area, Japan, Vietnam, and Mongolia. In retirement, Ed began a family foundation to support projects around the world. What brought Ed the greatest joys were his family, friends, traveling, piloting his plane, sailing, painting, making documentary films, writing, singing off-key, a good party, dancing the twist, and laughing.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Elizabeth and three daughters (Tina Nef of Seattle, WA; Patricia Nef of Seattle, WA; and Stefanie Marik of Reston Virgina), son-in-law, David Marik, and four grandchildren (Thomas and Andrew Striegl, Emily and Abigail Marik), to whom he will always be remembered with a smile as "Popsie".
