ELIZABETH OWENS FLETCHER (Age 84)
Headed to Heaven on January 9, 2017. Betty was a sixth generation Washingtonian who attended Chevy Chase Elementary School, The Potomac School, Madeira School and Sweet Briar College. She was a member of Senior Girl Scout Troop 65, one of "Stalkie's" girls, with whom she travelled to England and Scotland to help in the Guide camps after WWII. Throughout her life she spent many happy summers with her family in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Betty worked in real estate in Washington for over 45 years and she was active in a number of community organizations, but it was her role as mother that gave her the most pleasure. Her four surviving children include, John M. Benziger of Chevy Chase, Elizabeth B. Davis of Montpelier, VT, Susanna R. Florance of Richmond, VA, and Andrew C. Florance of Washington. She was predeceased by her eldest child, Peter Hamilton Benziger, Jr. (Hammy). Betty was blessed to have six grandchildren.A reception celebrating Betty's life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the Chevy Chase Club.The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC.
