ELIZABETH HADLEY Obituary

Elizabeth Harrison Hadley  "Beth"
Died suddenly on July 23, 2021 in Guilford, Connecticut at the age of 66.  Beth is survived by her husband of 39 years, Nicholas Hadley; her daughter, Mary Hadley and her wife Lindsay Szauter; her sister Nancy Chiboucas, her husband Charlie, their children and grandchildren; and her sister Marjorie Fleming, her husband Richard, their children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Harrison, and mother, Marjorie Harrison.  Beth was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on May 20, 1955. She grew up a faculty brat on the Phillips Academy Andover campus in Andover, Massachusetts. She attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated in 1973. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude with a BA in History from Yale College in 1977. While at Yale, she played field hockey, lacrosse, and ice hockey. She was the first captain of the Yale Women's varsity lacrosse team. She received her JD from University of California at Berkeley in 1981 and a Master's in Public Health from Yale University in 1989.  Beth's career was defined by her passion for public health policy. She held numerous positions in the federal government, including serving as an appointee of the Obama Administration to the Office of Personnel Management implementing a program created under the Affordable Care Act. Most recently, Beth served as an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University Law School teaching a course in public health law.  Beth's philanthropic work included service to multiple nonprofit organizations. She served as a volunteer staff attorney for Whitman-Walker Health. She also sat on the governing boards of Holton-Arms School (Maryland), For the Love of Children (Washington, DC) and Guilford Land Conservation Trust (Connecticut).  Beth will be remembered for her love of history, her voracious appetite for reading and her ability to form friendships with people young and old. A great animal lover, she was rarely seen without her beloved miniature poodle, Fritz. She will be deeply missed by her family and numerous friends.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC. Services will be held at a later date.
