I think everyone in Beltsville loved Buddy. My Dad and Buddy were great friends. I used to stop in after school and put eggs in their cartons for Buddy. He used to give me a free soda for helping him. Even though I moved away from Beltsville, I would still stop in to see Buddy and Sonny, just to say "hi." My Dad past away 9 years ago. When I would stop in to see Buddy he would always get tears in his eyes & tell me he sure missed my Dad. Boteler store was the greatest & will always be remembered. When my kids were young and we played "this little piggie went to market, this little piggie stayed home...instead of saying this little piggie had roast beef..we said, "this little piggie had Boteler's bologna."
I'm sure going to miss Buddy.

Having worked with Buddy at the store thru high school,as many teens in Beltsville did, I felt like he was family. Buddy treated all of us to a great experience in our first job, making us feel part of the Boteler Store history. He and Cliff were the greatest bosses I have ever known, and Buddy taught me not to judge a man by his size when he would go into the cooler ,grab a 185 lb.hind quarter like it was nothing and toss it onto the cutting table. Buddy, Lil, and Cliff will always be a part of Beltsville History.

I will always remember Buddy sitting behind the counter at Botelers Store, keeeping a watchful eye on the rambunctious teens as they shopped for sodas, cigarettes and candy. He was a Beltsville icon and will surely be missed, as is the store. Sympathies to Sonny and the rest of the family.
