Eric Tarpinian-Jachym Obituary

Eric Michael Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, of Granby, Massachusetts, passed away on July 1, 2025, tragically from a shooting in Washington, DC one mile from the White House. Eric was honored to be hired by Rep. Estes from Kansas for a summer internship as a Legislative Intern to the House of Representatives. His life, though heartbreakingly short, was filled with passion, curiosity, and achievement. Eric was a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandson, student, and friend.

Eric was born on October 28, 2003, in Springfield, MA, the youngest of three children. He was a graduate of Granby Public Schools, and an alumnus of the Bement School in Deerfield, MA. He was a stellar student recognized for his academic excellence. He was a Latin enthusiast. Eric received Honors with passing the National Latin Exam, receiving a Gold Medal, The American Classical League, April 2020; Best Delegate Award, Boston College High School, March 2020; National Latin Exam Silver Medal, The American Classical League, April 2019 and National Latin Exam Summa Cum Laude and The American Classical League April 2018. He was on Debate Club, Model UN, Chess Club and Bowling Club during his high school years. Eric attended Bryant University for finance his freshman year but wanted to come back to Massachusetts to be with his family. Eric received a scholarship to many Universities but chose Bryant because of their reputation of being an excellent Business School, plus he said, "I can fish the Rhode Island shores and lakes." Eric was then accepted to Isenberg School of Management, for sophomore year and was honored to be part of the UMASS/Isenberg Business School Community. While at UMASS Eric was active in clubs on campus including Ski Club, Armenian Club, Chess Club, Finance Society, and Investment Club.

Eric was honored to receive a full scholarship in January 2025 to attend the Fund for American Studies in Washington, DC, along with being a full time fellow with Advanced Advocacy from January 2025 - May 2025 and while attending George Mason University full time for the semester.

Eric started archery in 4th grade and then became a competitive recurve archer and competed in Jr. Olympic Archery Development. He competed in their competitions along with the USA Archery Nationals on many occasions and was a Level One Instructor for Archery. Eric loved the Archery community because of the encouragement to do your personal best and be part of a team.

Eric started fishing when he was a toddler on the R.I. waters with his siblings, grandpa and parents. He would crab, fish, and when he got older loved clamming with his friends and family. Eric was a member of Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association along with his father. He frequently competed in tournaments, free dives to remove marine debris and has supported RISAA's initiatives before the Rhode Island Fisheries Commissions. He also belonged to Pioneer Valley Boat & Surf in Agawam, MA, where he was on the Board of Directors and the youngest board member ever. Eric met so many wonderful people at this club. He was in all their fishing tournaments, sold raffle tickets at the Sportsmen's Show and met many nice mentors at this club who honed in on how Eric cared about the environment and fishing while encouraging younger and older generations to participate in fishing. He has mentored people on the R.I. shores. Eric and his best fishing buddy, David Boggs entered the Rhode Island Surfcasting classic. Fishing Clubs from RI, CT, and MA participate, and this competition is held in the Fall. Eric winning the Trophy for the Pioneer Valley Boat and Surf made Eric and the Club so happy, especially David, his fishing buddy, during the tournament. He also loved ice fishing with his father and brother.

Eric's presence was marked by a bright mind, quiet determination, and a quick wit.

We ask that you remember Eric for his kind heart, intelligence, his sense of justice, love of nature, and his unwavering curiosity. Eric was a humble old soul. He leaves behind his family, close friends, a university, and intern community that will feel his absence deeply.

Eric leaves his devoted parents Tamara Tarpinian-Jachym and Robert Jachym; his older sister Angela; older brother Jeremy all of Granby and his best buddy, Hunter, the family German Short Hair Pointer who he had a very special bond with over the last 11 years. He leaves his Uncle and Aunt Michael and Patti Jachym of Monson; his Uncle and Godfather David and Jane Jachym from South Windsor, CT and his Uncle Mark and Aunt Cathy from NC. He also leaves his Godmother Marisa Zulch, and many cousins across the country, too numerous to mention. He was the grandson of the late Longin and Ursula Jachym of Wilbraham, and Evelyn Gurski Tarpinian and Harry Tarpinian of Ludlow and Westerly, R.I.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St, Wilbraham, MA 01095.

My heartfelt tears felt for your family

Sharon

July 14, 2025

I sat in my car Sunday after meeting you & your daughter and journaled as much as I could about our encounter. I always have pen & paper on hand because when I encounter a " light" such as you and your family .. restoring faith enforcing hope sharing grief etc. My sister in 1973 was killed at age 16.. I was 20 with an 11 month old baby. The love of strangers the tears of young people and grief of family/friends and loss put me on a path of service to others and strong faith.. A woman of strong faith said to me there is no one more important than the person who stands before you. Always Be present. You trying to hold back tears at the register and your daughter´s noticeable shock .. your sales lady friend hoping you would shed those tears .. finally you saying those words.. but outside when you shifted from grieve to sharing your sons life .. totally present in the love joy and your sons gifts he gave freely to the world.. I don´t know the rest of your family but you and your daughter just by being you.. have given everyone you two encounter as did your son a gift they will never forget. Dr Martin Luther King Jr in 1968 gave a speech on Civil Rights Movement. In part it reads. Don´t let silence wrap itself around indecisions treat the world, the homeless, the suffering with compassion because sometimes all people want to be is Human. All you need is your voice and desire to compassionately speak your truth. Remember to express kindness it´s an active expression of care, concern warmth and generosity that asks for nothing in return because if it did it would mean you did something to get something back that would be a deal, transaction a manipulation BUT not an act of Kindness because Kindness is connected with compassion, empathy and sympathy. ( hope, joy & love). Someone once said to me joy is different for everyone. You, Mom, Dad, your Daughter, family & friends taught your son from the day he was born that Peace is connected with joy. Reaping Joy in the midst of suffering is Everything. It is not different for everyone it is the core of everything. As a Mom and today to all your family and friends.. take comfort in knowing you taught Eric A Grateful Way Of Living, A Grateful Way Of Being .. that resides in your heart and soul. This was as you described Eric his life mission & Legacy to share with the world just as he did with family & friends as a little boy & teen. He did humbly & Grace & above all with love. Sharon. For myself I often find a song : for you as a Mom if it so moves you to do so from Celine Dion´s A New Day Album play the song PRAYER.. ( make sure it comes off this album). It´s about hope & resilience, spiritual reflection & emotional depth , finding strength in unexpected places, particularly in the eyes of a child and your family´s longing for hope, peace & healing. For Eric´s dad grandfather uncles etc. forever young by Rod Stewart but be sure to play it thru the video where he is holding his little child.. to family and friends play Glorious by David Archuletto.. play the video where he is standing in front of the microphone background is Red. I hope it brings all of you a moment of peace love and joy to know you have given to the world the greatest gift just by being lovingly present

My life will never be the same. The morning texts of "Have a good day". The evening texts of "Mom goodnight, I love you". The texts that said "thank you". You are so intelligent. I always told you, "I wish I was smart as you". You just smiled. You never thought you where above anyone. I will miss you Eric. I love you more then words can say. Momma

May God grant strength to Bob, Tamara, Angela, and Jeremy to cope with the tragic loss of their dear Eric. We saw Eric grow from bicycle to motor bike to car to truck in what seems like the blink of an eye. We will miss his sharp sense of humor, his unique take on world affairs, his fishing stories and his love of Latin. Eric, Requiescas in pace.

I was so moved by you and your daughter today at JC Penney I felt compelled to give you and your daughter a hug. Thank you for sharing your son´s life with me. He was extraordinary in his compassion to make a mark in this world. He certainly didn´t shy away from long hours and hard work. His focus appeared thru your description of a young man who wanted to give to the world around him the kindness , compassion and love to everyone he encountered. A reflection to the wonderful loving family he was born into. I read his obituary a few moments ago and thought WOW so many accomplishments in such a short span of time.. his passion for fishing with family & friends wonderful memories to rest your hearts on. He had JOY LOVE Happiness surrounding him in whatever he did or wherever he went. A life well lived by a memorable remarkable young man. Deepest sympathy. Sharon

Eric... Thank you for sharing your love for and knowledge of fishing with me. I enjoyed our many conversations on various topics. It was a pleasure watching you grow into the incredible young man you had become. You have no idea how many people I have told stories about you and your fishing adventures. My favorite story to tell about you is the time you set out fishing on your paddle board and were half way to Block Island before anyone realized. You were so far off shore and surrounded by several fishing boats. All we could see was a silhouette of you standing amongst the many boats. I tell people you looked like Jesus, walking on the water. You were an extraordinary human being. This world needed you. My heart is so heavy. I like to think that you are somewhere in Heaven walking on the water with Jesus comparing fishing stories. I loved you my friend. You will be sorely missed.
