Mr. and Mrs. Allen possessed a quiet godly spirit. I remember them well from The Greater First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant Plains, where they were right-standing members in body of Christ. I remember visiting with them and drinking lemonade on the front porch. We had lively conversations about being the best that I could be. I was a young adult then but I remember the indelible mark they both left on my life. Ms. Helene as I would call her holds a special place in my heart because I felt that she was my namesake and a grand lady too.
I miss them both, yet I find comfort that I will see them again in that great getting up morning!

Rest in Peace, Mr. Allen. It is a sad commentary on your long and faithful service to the holders of the highest office of our nation to have the Hollywood Moguls cash-in on your dedicated service to our country.

I saw the movie The Butler this evening and was simply blown away! I am a beneficiary of people like Mr. Alllen, who worked diligently and without complaint to open the doors of opportunity for me. I thank God that the life of one who quietly did so much to help others is no longer hidden under a bushel. Peace and blessings in abundance to Mr. Allen's surviving family members.

Charles, my wife extend our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your father. I was fortunate to have met him once, and I was very impressed by his kind and gentle manner. I have researched the various media with all the writings about him and without a doubt everything was very positive. You can be proud of his accomplishments and cherish them into eternity.

May God continue to bless you and your family.

Charles and family. Your Dad was a kind man of great dignity, fine character, and even temperment. He always had a smile. I never saw him in a fuss. I was so happy when I was around your Mom and Dad when I was growing up. I remember many wonderful occasions when your father would share stories of his work (as much as he could) with your mother and with me. Sometimes we would just sit on the porch, and talk and laugh about life in general. I still remember the samples and treasures he saved and brought to me. The were little bits of history from people of high office and places of power. He wanted me to see and have them. While I know your father touched many lives, you father and his friendship were always very, very, special to my Dad and my Mother. The two men were always buddies, The three of them sat together at the table when your mother passed away. Well God in his mercy has joined your parents together once again. Be comforted that your father's toils and lonely days are over! He has gone to his long deserved rest at last. The circle is complete. Peace to you from Mother and Dad, and my entire family. I was a part-time White House butler from 1980 to 1985. Mr. Allen was my boss and was, perhaps, the nicest person I've ever worked for. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. I am honored to have known him.
