EUGENE D.W. DOHERTY  
Eugene D.W. Doherty, age 80, of Arlington, VA, died April 14, 2015 at Virginia Hospital after a sudden illness. Gene leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Katherine (MacMaster) Doherty. He is also survived by his sister, Marcella Smith of Buffalo, NY. His two brothers, James and Edward, predeceased him.He is survived by his seven children, Anne (and Thom) Crook, Woody Doherty, John Doherty, Amy Doherty, Kate (and Mike) Bia, Krista Doherty and Kara Doherty. Gene was the devoted grandfather of Ben and Lindsay Crook, and Charlotte, Caroline, and Louise Bia.Gene was born in Winchester, MA and settled in Brookline, MA to raise his family before relocating to Arlington, VA in 1995. After graduating from in Delbarton School in New Jersey, Gene was inducted into the United States Army in November 1954. He had a career in transportation sales in the Boston area and began a career in government in Boston with the US General Service Administration. Eventually drawn to a warmer climate where he could enjoy his passion for golf nearly year round, Gene and Kaye headed south where he retired at the age of 70 from the Department of Defense, Washington, DC.Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley, MA, Wednesday, April 22, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Eugene's memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
