Gene (known then as Eugene) Feinberg was my best friend growing up in Queens, New York during the 1950s.
About six months ago, we reconnected with one another through Facebook and subsequently enjoyed several most pleasant phone conversations and cyber exchanges. Turns out (either we both had forgotten or we simply never knew in our youth) we were BOTH born on the same day in Brooklyn, New York -- May 21, 1943 -- although us two Brooklyn boys never lived in Brookly, we met in the neighboring borough of Queens, and enjoyed "growing up",a by playing lots of stickball, trips into New York City, playing pool at his home and attending religious services.
We were often inseparable, until our adult lives sunk in and, naturally, we went our separate ways and pretty much lost contact until recently. He was a great friend . . . went on to become a credit to his profession, community and family and I truly do miss him and the many good times and memories we shared. (Eu)gene shall always be in my heart, until my final day. He was the best friend a young boy could ask for!
My sincerest condolences to his entire family. It's been more than a half century -- where did the time go?!

I had only known Gene for two years, through our mutual work at the Fairfax County Police Academy, where we both took photographs of the recruits' training activities. I immediately noticed how Gene was able to put them at ease and establish a relationship. It was clear how much they enjoyed his banter. I aspire to the same ability.

Gene was a dedicated, sincere gentleman whose leadership and dedication to his community were beyond reproach. He will always be fondly remembered by those of us who were a part of his Auxiliary Police class. Gene was always the first to call and offer his assistance and support whenever someone needed help or encouragement. My late wife remarked about his courteousness and caring nature when he would call my home to check on us. My thoughts and prayers are with the Feinburg family during this difficult time. May God bless and hold you all. Charles Esslinger, APO, McLean Station

To The family of Dr. Feinberg., I have known Gene for over twenty years. His kindness and general love for our profession speaks volumes for the hard work he has done for us over the many years. I will miss his smiling face at the convention this year. Does anyone remember when his name for called at a raffle and he was busy doing something for the VPMA and missed the prize? Gene always had a kind and encouraging word to say. He really helped me out a lot when I was just beginning my practice in 1999. I visited his office in Annandale/Alexandria when he was starting to transition into retirement. I try to be and do like he did when helping out our colleagues and others in general.

I could always count on Gene to send me a message or a phone call to admonish me for being late with my membership payments. He allowed a very narrow window of compliance. But, that being said, you always felt priviledged to be a recipient of that graciousness, and found yourself being thankful for the extra time.
Gene was a very unique man. He loved his family. I don't know how many times I had to listen to why my schedule was not good due to his family's committments. He always had something going on.
Brigetta,
You do not know me. I do not know you. We both know a very unique man who had compassion, kindness and forgiveness just built into his soul. Nothing will ever bring him back. But, we can go on from here and perpetuate his life.
I hope this gives you some solace. He was a genuine man, a very kind person, who had only other people's interests as his own. He was a favorite among his peers.
Sincerely,
Michael Dente

When I started out as a podiatrist in 2000, I had a lot of challenges as all first-timers do, with starting a clinic. The thing I remember about Gene Feinberg, is that he was always calm, and always explained things to me , calmly, even when I was not being exactly calm. I never forgot that, and I learned from him. He was a leader of ours, and he was always there to help. I always liked talking to Gene.
My heart goes out to his family at this time, all the best to you.

Brigetta, I am so sorry to hear we lost Gene. He fought the good fight. Gene was a great friend to me as I'm sure he was to many others. He will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember the day he came in for his interview to become a Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) volunteer with the Fairfax County Police Department. It was tough when he later told me he had decided to become an Auxiliary Police Officer and was leaving the VIPS Program to follow his dream. Good for him. You'll be missed my friend.
