F. SHEILD McCANDLISH, JR.
Of Alexandria, VA on January 6, 2007 due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Priscilla "Pat" McCandlish; devoted father to his son, Fairfax and wife, Joanne of Williamsburg; his daughters, Barbara Moore McCandlish and husband, John Van Dyke of Santa Fe, NM and Margaret L.M. Darby of Clifton, VA; caring brother of Mary Walton Livingston and the late Nancy Montague Prichard; invaluable grandfather to Mackey, Joanna and Gavin McCandlish, Michael Sheild McCandlish, Carole Lindsay Darby and the recently deceased, Robert Stuart Darby, III. Services to be held at Truro Episcopal Church, 10520 Main St., Fairfax, VA 22030 on Thursday, January 25 at 11:30 a.m., followed by burial at Fairfax City Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 11240 Waples Mill Rd., Ste . 402, Fairfax, VA 22030.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Fairfax McCandlish's father. I worked with Fax at Metro for 20 years, and I grieve with him for the loss of his father.

After having know the McCandlishes for some 47 years, it is with deep regret that I heard of Shield's passing. Margaret is the Rock of Gibraltar and my thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Dear Margaret and Family, I want to express my condolences to you in the loss of your Dad. Regardless of age or health condition losing a parent is never an easy thing. Lost my Dad over 6 years ago and empathesize the times you are going through. As you know never met your Dad but felt I did know him from what Claudia had shared with me. Know that my prayers and thoughts will be with you. May God's love and your faith in Him help you.
