FRANCES McEACHERN Obituary

FRANCES C. McEACHERN (Age 93)  "Long Story Short"
Of Arlington, VA Thursday March 10, 2016. A long-time resident of Crystal City, Efrosini "Fran'' Captain was born February 2, 1923, in New Bedford, MA. After moving to Washington in 1956 she enjoyed a 30 year career at the Pentagon as a Congressional Travel Liaison for the Navy. In 1964 she married former Navy pilot and LCDR in the Naval Reserve, William "Bill'' McEachern, who preceded her in death in 1984. Fran led a charmed life and charmed all those that knew her. Always gracious and elegant, she had a great love of fashion and style and brightened the room everywhere she went. "Long story short " was her favorite expression which always preceded a long but colorful story. After retiring from the Pentagon, Fran became an active member of the Women''s Auxiliary of the Salvation Army, ultimately becoming a public relations spokesperson for Auxiliary events including the Fashion Show Galas. A staunch Republican, she was a member of the Republican Women''s Club of DC and Alexandria. She is survived by a stepson, Bill McEachern III of Birmingham, AL; nephews Paul Straubel of Badin Lake, NC, and David Robbins of New Orleans, LA; and nieces Cynthia Robbins-Roth of San Mateo, CA, and Dyanna Schulze of Fairhaven, MA.A memorial service and internment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Fran McEachern was one of the sweetest people "put on this earth". Always having a "sunny disposition" and kind nature, it was always a pleasure to see her or speak to her on the telephone. She will be missed by me and countless others.
