Frances Robinson Obituary

FRANCES AMIS ROBINSON, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, at the age of 92. She raised two daughters, Susan Maria Cherry Smitson and Dana Louise Breeden, who, along with their children, will forever cherish her memory.

Frances (or Frankie, as everyone called her) was born on May 4, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA to Claude and Mary Amis. Frankie attended Banneker Jr. High School, then Dunbar High School. She graduated from Penn State with a BA in Sociology. She went on to earn a Master's in Social Work at Howard University, then began a 40-year career at the Maryland Department of Human Services. She became the first Black member of the Prince George's County Personnel Board and was Deputy Director for Prince George's County's Department of Social Services before retiring in 1995. After her retirement, she took on ballroom dancing and competed around the world. At home, she started a tennis club and recruited her friends and neighbors, playing well into her eighties.

A celebration of Frankie's life will be held at March Life Tribute Centers Funeral Home in Laurel, MD, with a viewing on January 8, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. and service and internment on January 9, 2026, at 10 a.m.
